Wanted to give what I thought was a new place a try, but seeing reviews from a year ago, so here’s my up to date impression for the great people of Umalas. Beautiful interior and decorations throughout, very comfortable and friendly staff. Unfortunately the coffees aren’t great, 60k for an oat milk late is excessive anywhere, but when the coffee isn’t good, it’s a little upsetting to spend so much money.
The baked eggs were 2 eggs in a tiny pot, overcooked and far too salty with some greasy roti; the Instagram photo made it look amazing. I’m never a fan of writing negative reviews, but as a couple, leaving a large portion of our food untouched and most of our coffees should have set off some alarm bells for the manager/owner on site. Especially we were one of three other couples in the restaurant at the time.
We did let the staff know of our experience and the message was to be passed onto the chef, but we got no further apologies or an explanation from anyone in charge. Especially having only recently opened the restaurant, we’d think that feedback like this would be important to them. Massive shame for a new Café in the area, hopefully things improve and there are more checks done before sending food and drinks out...

Read moreBeen a couple of times now… the first time service was slow and orders got mixed up but I thought the place is new the food was good - they’re learning… I’ll return. The second time we arrived on a Sunday excited for the kids playground only to find out they’re closed- this has changed now though. So back we went. Nannies took great care of the kids and we enjoyed a short visit. Since the (breakfast) food was fairly good albeit pricey we looked forward to return, yet when we came back the playground turned into a “day care” at a rate of 100k which is absolutely ridiculous- especially considering the menu prices. I get it, your investment needs to pay off, you have to pay for nannies etc… but there are smarter ways.. better menu calculations, minimum spend etc etc Such a shame- this could have easily become our new local.. but I guess we’ll stick to the plenty of other cafes in Canggu and surroundings that have kids areas...
