Jalan Bumbak in the laid back Umalas area is experiencing an awakening as a food and living destination of Bali. Satoshi is the latest addition to the neighbourhood.
The establishment is certainly upmarket for the area and a welcome addition. It is the place to go in the area if you want to ādress upā for the evening. The exterior and interior design sets the tone with its minimalist setting and Japanese inspired setting. It was crowded on a Friday evening with ābeautiful peopleā when we arrived and that is not a common scene for most of the restaurants in the area. The place was buzzing with conversation and music . 2 things catch your eye on first impressions.. the the large cylindrical funnel shaped frame which anchors the open concept seating space and the floor to ceiling vinyl bar with DJ at the helm.
The best part of the restaurant is the service. The staff are attentive and well trained. The The food is marketed as Asian and Japanese inspired. The presentation is well thought out but overall the food is average. We tried a variety of starters and appetizers and although tasty there was nothing which really stood out. For the appetizers the arancini (wagyu tartare, truffle on rice ball ) was the standout . The flat bread and seared salmon with truffle ponzu was bland. For mains we had the crispy eggplant salad, prawn wasabi risotto, teriyaki chicken and butterfly miso and the best way to describe it was just above average but certainly not memorable.
The restaurant has an extensive cocktail and drinks menu and something to suit all taste buds. Its food and drink prices are high for the area. Iām not sure I would return just for the food but perhaps if u wanted to dress up and spend the evening with friends if not constrained by budget! Bali is always full of...
Ā Ā Ā Read morehad a wonderful dinner experience here..
from the outside, this place looks more like a gallery or marketing office during the day, i used to went through the street a lot. Then i found out that its a restaurant and we decide to try it out on our friend's birthday.
their interior is simple, industrial but also luxury. they have a dj set with some vinyls background. They have tables in and little bit in outdoor.
Their menu is a bit unique, they have only few pages of food and lots of pages for drinks.. i guess the place fits for hangout, wine and bites vibe. The food was more like a fine dining but not like their name which resemblance a japanese food.. they're more into italian and french.
their staff is very welcoming and helpful, they dont have that many staff but we were all covered well. The staff's uniform was not like a fine dining restaurant, its just grey shirt and black pants, i think their vibe can chance a bit just by having more tidy and dignifying outfit.. but maybe its a semi casual dining place after all. At least they should be more certain their vibe concept.
We ordered a lot of food and i love the flavour they made. their arancini is super delicious, their hummus is magnificent, the mixture of flavour and texture of mushy and crispy is very delightful.
as my main.. i ordered wasabi risotto.. it looks beautifully green and the taste.. it was perfect! i love how they bring the unique texture, flavour and presentation...
price wise, its quite pricy but its definitely worth the taste and indulgence.
i would definitely come again to try their other food. Overall this place is perfect for date, business meet and lounge. its highly recommendable.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you're looking for a place where style triumphs over substance, then this restaurant is your perfect match. Let's start with the positives - the interior decor is stunning. But alas, that's where the charm ends. The food, an extravagant display of mediocrity, comes with a price tag that makes you wonder if the chef is a hidden celebrity. I tried their fried eggplants, which, despite their promising appearance, turned out to be disappointingly bland in taste. The sauce made a valiant attempt at redemption but failed miserably.
Then came the fish, a culinary catastrophe, so overcooked it could easily be mistaken for a piece of parchment. Of the three side dishes served, only one was palatable. For a hefty price of 170,000 IDR, my taste buds expected a symphony but got a funeral march instead. The drink, a titanic iceberg in a glass, was more ice than flavor.
Service? There are plenty of waiters, yet ironically unobservant. Our empty plates became a permanent fixture on our table, despite a trio of staff members consistently hovering nearby, seemingly puzzled about their role in the restaurant ecosystem. Their knowledge of the menu was as shallow as the flavor in their dishes.
In conclusion, my evening ended with heartburn and a resolve never to return. This restaurant is a vivid reminder that all that glitters is not gold, especially in the...
