I’d heard that there was a Caribbean concept of a restaurant being built in the area and I’ve been looking forward to checking it out.
I was targeted by an add on instagram where I saw some familiar faces dancing and having fun. I wondered was this the restaurant and so I sought it out for the experience and to write a review on it.
Upon entry the restaurant has a smooth, airy vibe. It sort of reminds me of Bahama Breeze in the South Florida when I’m looking at the uniforms of the staff.
At first site the space looks small and cozy but if you venture inside it becomes quite intimate with a large space that can be used for parties or dinners with friends. I loved it. I felt like I got two spaces in one.
About the food… I came in to try the roti because come on as a Caribbean girl if you can’t make a good roti, what’s the point in my opinion. Unfortunately, they didn’t have roti. But in their defense it was for good reason.
Bali has a semiannual celebration where a lot of businesses either close down or work less hours so that the Balinese can contribute their offerings to the gods. Well it seems some vendors had to push delivery dates so no roti.
The stewed chicken was suggested and it was surprisingly tasty with a decent balance of seasonings that pay homage to the caribbean food experience.
The dish included black beans and for my own taste were a bit undercooked. I definitely hope that at some point the restaurant can add a caribbean pickle or spice for us caribean natives looking for that heat kick.
I had fried plantains and let me just say… Having plantains in Bali for me just feels sooo good. The plantains came with a cinnamon and sugar glaze and and personally I believe that it was too sweet. The beauty of having fried plantains is that it’s its own champion on the plate. It doesn’t need any help. If we’re pushing it, a dash of salt to balance the sweet.
For my drink I had sorrel. Yes I’m Jamaican 🇯🇲 Gotta have the sorrel.
The way it’s served is pretty amazing in fact it was everything I didn’t know I needed but wanted. It came in the form of a slush and the sugar was served on the side. I loved that I was able to enjoy the drink as it is.
Okay so, yes I’ve given them 5 stars because it’s worth it. The staff is accommodating and the food is good. I suppose when they officially open this restaurant will be all the rave.
I highly suggest you stop by and try it out for yourself. 🙌🏽 I...
Read moreCame here tonight. I ordered the Jamaican Pattie’s, oxtail and rice and peas with plantains, and two drinks.
Food: normally Jamaican beef Pattie’s should not be eaten with sauce so I ate it without the sauce they served on the side. Ofc this is not an authentic Jamaican restaurant so I didn’t have such high hopes. I would rate the Pattie’s a 6/10 seemed like the beef was just over cooked and they looked more like empanadas than Pattie’s. Oxtails: they gave me one big oxtail and about two small oxtails … the flavor was okay but could be better 6/10. The plantains were good though.
Service: the service NEEDS TO BE BETTER. Their are about 10 people working here. I should not have to call a waiter over to take my order .. that’s ridiculous! And also some of your staff doing hookah in the front.. Then I asked for my check twice … meanwhile I’m the only person left in the restaurant. Service needs to be better.
Atmosphere: the place is definitely a vibe in terms of decor and...
Read moreI was welcomed as soon as I walked in by friendly staff, the restaurant is beautiful and inviting with a real warm atmosphere. When going through to the back to the courtyard there was karaoke on and people were having a good time. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas with plantain. Being someone from London I’m lucky to know a lot of cuisines from the wide range London has to offer and I love Caribbean food. I was so surprised at how fantastic the jerk chicken was. The flavors were spot on and the portion was generous. It came with 2 different sauces, one was more zesty and the other one was more spicy and both complimented the meal perfectly. I will definitely be coming back for more. Also the rum punch was a winner and I was impressed that both drinks tasted exactly the same when served at different times. 5* all round, thanks to the...
