Garden Canggu Bali — Restaurant in Bali

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. It happened on my second visit to Garden Canggu. I ordered a pan of pizza and a pina colada, taking advantage of the two for one happy hour. The waitress asked me if I want the two drinks together, which I thought a strange question since I was sitting alone. I asked her if it's possible to get one drink now, and the second later. She said yes.

After drinking my first, I thought it was a little too soft, and I wanted a beer. I asked the same waitress if I can just pay for the one pina colada and get a beer. She said it is NOT possible to cancel since it's happy hour, and that I would just have to pay for two glasses of pina colada and the beer. Here is the kicker; she wasn't offering to serve me the second glass. I pointed out the absurdity of her suggestion. Even at this point, I tried to be as understanding and patient as possible, since English is not the waitress' first language, and I've worked in the restaurant industry, so I'm always extra polite to the staff and understanding of any mishaps. I asked her if they had made the other glass of pina colada already, if so, I'll take it. But if they hadn't made it yet, I would like to simply pay for the single pina colada. She asked me to wait.

Five minute goes by, the waitress is serving other customers. I flagged her down and she said she'll talk with her "friend". I waited another five minutes. All the while, I'm without a drink, my pizza had gotten cold, and I watched the waitress talk to another staff briefly and go on serving other customers.

Now over ten minutes had passed, I flagged her down again to ask her what is going on. She's a little hard to understand, so I asked to repeat what she had said. She then had the audacity to ask me if I spoke English. At this point, I was done speaking with her. I asked for the manager or the owner. I pointed to the staff she had spoken with about my issue and asked the waitress if she is the manager. The waitress told me yes.

As soon as I spoke to this "manager", she told me I can pay for one pina colada and get a beer. I told her that is exactly what I wanted to do... over ten minutes ago. I explained what had transpired between the waitress and I. I explained to her that I've worked my share of restaurants, and I wanted to let the management know of my bad experience, so this does not happen again. It turned out, she's not the manager. Another employee got pulled into the mess, and he offered to comp my drink. I politely refused. I wanted to speak with the owner. Finally, they got me a phone number, I paid my bill, and left with my meal incomplete.

I'm okay with unfriendly waitresses. I'm okay with difficulty in communication. But this waitress was on another level. She was rude, obtuse, and went out of her way to make my experience as difficult and unpleasant as possible.

Any restaurant without management on sight is guaranteed to have problems. With so many other great restaurants with good food and stellar service in walking distance, this place is not worthy of your business. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this place is gone in a...

The Garden Canggu by far by a Country mall the best restaurant in Canggu On a personal note I have had meals there on a total of 28 occasions , also (Breakfast) on 14 occasions The breakfast menu is quite large in selection to pick from and very hard to pick anything wrong with the breakfast menu especially the breakfast specials which are good valve and Breakfast deals & Breaky Specials from 8am -2pm which are all excellent excellent value For maincourse the pasta dishes Garden had got a Large selection of Pasta to pick from all our excellent I’ve tried them all For the main course I recommend the Grilled Chicken Breast & My favourite dish is the Pan seared Salmon give it 150% 12 out of 10 Highly recommend the best Also last but not least is the Pan Seared Baramundi . A really beautiful restaurant, well decorated and put together. Staff were amazing, very welcoming and friendly throughout our meal. The drinks we ordered were great, I opted for a virgin pina colada smoothie which was delicious and my girlfriend got a peanut butter and chocolate smoothie which she really enjoyed. The food was okay, maybe a little underwhelming. My girlfriend went for gnocchi pesto, the sauce was amazing but the gnocchi had been overcooked so was very soft and almost had a mashed potato complexion. I opted for mie goreng. My portion size was generous and the fried egg was cooked to perfection, everything else was just okay. This didn’t ruin our experience and I’d still recommend the restaurant to others.
