Caroline Guest House — Hotel in Pulau Bali

Ok first thing first this is a nice hotel to stay at. Staff are great. Hotel is a very short walk to the beach beside that I gave this hotel a 2 star due to the fact that the hotel failed to mentioned that on silent day the hotel will not provide no food to the guest that are stuck in the room for the entire day. Let me explain how this went down. 2 days before the holiday silent day I informed the staff I was leaving to nusa lembongan on the 2nd. I ended up returning back to canggu because my friend and me were scammed by a local, our villa on mushroom beach was a lie. The address was an empty field. So that same morning 11am the 2nd. I Message the hotel i was returning back. When i arrived. I went to pizza place near by. I wanted to buy extra food so i can have extra food for silent day but the staff of the pizza place informed me dont do that your villa or hotel will take care of you. I've heard this a couple of times the last couple of days. So I wake up the 3rd to find out that the only thing the hotel offers was water and a pot for me to cook food if I bought any. At no time was I informed about this. So the sweet and kind lady offered me ramen noodles I said no thank you that has lots of sodium she said you have microwave I said no my room dont have have microwave. 10 minutes later she tells me I can go grab food from the rooftop. Off respect I grabbed a very small portion thinking there was going to be more later lunch and dinner. This was at 9am. Around 230pm I wonder to the front and she greets me and I ask about lunch. She made a call and she was informed that i will have to pay. This made me so angry. How are you going to charge someone when you the hotel FAILED to informed the guest. Now I'm stuck in my room starving and...

Pleasantly surprised here as it was SO cheap! Huge rooms, tv, kettle! Bathroom really needs an update. It was dirty, tiles grimy and cracked and lots of ants. We didn’t moan as so happy for the Price! On the roof there are sunloungers and 2 hot tubs. We didn’t use them but they don’t turn on, more of a plunge pool. Location is perfect! At the end of the high street so can walk down. Laundry on site, super cheap and great! The reason they’ve lost a star is because of the bathroom and their rubbish response to me. I left some sweaty (gross) gym clothing after a class on the roof to dry before we checked out. 20 mins down the road and I had realised - I had read online its impossible to get hold of them so I Instagram messaged as they’re very active. They took so long to get back to me saying they need to get someone to go and check - why could they not do that as it was 3 floors in the lift… and then 2 days later told me nobody had found anything and it wasn’t there. This gym stuff meant so much to me I was going to go back to Canggu to get it (from ubud) - I also had only just bought my sports bra. I had read about not leaving stuff in hotels in Bali as you won’t get them back but as we’ve been around Asia for 5 months (once having someone drop off my phone to me when left in a shop), I was so shocked. I like to believe the best in people and a genuine mistake made, but not sure how 😂 there were some reviews about others leaving stuff here too… who knows - but don’t like how they managed that situation and would’ve given them...

Here for two months, staying at Caroline for the second time in this trip. Love the location and how spacious the standard room is. Most importantly, the room is not dim, I always get really frustrated that a lot of guesthouse room I been to here in Bali, has this problem. I couldn't even read before I sleep because of the poor lighting.

Bed is big and room smells good, though the toilet is a bit run-down, still clean. Overall, I am satisfied.

Update on 25 Jan 2024: I extended another 3 more nights here and was moved to another room because of my new booking of a different type of room. Just yesterday night, I was awoken by a loud noise and vibration coming from the ceiling and I traced the sound, it was from the AC. Small pieces of ice started spiting out of it.😮 (The whole experience was really scary like a horror movie), I quickly turned it off and went to front desk to report the issue. I was told by staff he is here till tomorrow (24-hours operation), and less than 15mins, he changed a new room for me, because I was distraught when the aircon started leaking, everywhere was wet.

I am happy that the staff took immediately action and I could move to a new room with another staff help. What a night. Thank you, Caroline staff for being attentive to a solo woman traveler like...
