Naked Bun — Restaurant in Bali

Drunk in (burger) love. The reviews here don’t exaggerate in the slightest, Naked Bun is the truth. As somewhat of a hamburger enthusiast, I have found many burgers outside of my home country (the land of the hamburger, and the home of the brave, or whatever) sadly lacking. Naked Bun smashed it out of the park with a patty cooked to a perfect medium as requested. Burger sauce, lettuce, onion, pickle, tomato, and cheese were all present and flawlessly balanced. The fries were quite good as well, crispy outside with a soft interior, but could’ve used a more generous seasoning. Maybe a house blend rosemary salt, as they were served with a couple of sprigs which was a beautiful touch. Tuesdays and Thursdays they offer a free small side dish with burger or pizza purchases, and I opted for the jalapeño poppers, which was an easy choice considering this was one of maybe two or three times I’ve even seen them on a menu outside of the US. Pretty great! Pandemic promotion is a bunch of burgers with fries on their menu for 60k++. I also had the jalapeno poppers which were 35k. I ordered the cheese lover (I think was the name) which comes with 4 cheeses on top of the patty, then a dipping cheese. The bun I believe is cooked in house, it was really fresh - loved it. Beef was good and cooked as requested, though I wish it was thicker. The fries were ok, didn't seem from frozen, but needed some more character. I think the sambal was homemade which was nice.

Room for improvement: While the burger with the cheeses was great, it's incredibly heavy - needs some sort of veg or varied texture to break it up. I was satisfied with it, but wouldn't order again. The fries were very sparsely seasoned as pictured, wish they'd season more heavy handedly. The poppers were good, I've been missing that style, but the cream cheese filling had an unusual tang to it.

I've been walking past this place for months and it's always either empty or very quiet. Yet at the same time I've heard they have the best burgers in the area so today I finally gave it a try.

My first reaction is that the prices are quite high, standard burger comes with fries (its packaged together so you can't order just the burger) for Rp 105,000.

But hey, you get what you pay for, right? So here's what I thought of the burger:

Beef quality 5/5

Bun: 2/5 (supposed to be brioche but was instead dense and a little chewy)

Burger size: 4/5 good size but it has to be for this price

Fries: 4/5 decent and nicely seasoned

Taste: 3.5/5 Good but they are using a homemade tomato based jam in the burger that is supposed to be premium but it makes the burger a bit too sour.

Value for money: 3.5/4 I think their price point is a little high for what it is which also explains why its empty most of the time. If this burger was Rp 70,000 I think the place would...
