Beautiful pub Meals look reasonably priced, but NO british beers, last nights visit, when i asked for Magners cider, they didnt have any, (irish) i settled for pint of IPA which was good but drastically overpriced at 15.50, i will not be back as although its a nice place, i think it will fail, also 10% service charge and no car park , the people that own this have obviously spent a lot of money on it but The craft beers you can get anywhere cheaper. we left and went to the Black sands and the beer was half the price and a lot more choice, as i said i wont be back, another greedy place and doomed to failure. This is Bali not new york or London. I just got your responce and to say that 10% service charge is normal is a mistake on your part, i stick by my review, Try the Black sands and you will find the price of beers is considerably less than yours, how do you expect people in Bali to pay prices that are higher in Perth Australia and all over the world, you are charging Singapore prices, as i said you will get minimal custom, if you stay with these prices. I have traveled to about 30 countries and drank beers in every one, having lived in London/portugal/Spain Mexico and Australia, which are the most expensive (Perth), they all import british beers and are cheaper than your place, I realize Indonesia has high import taxes, you will need to adjust if you want to get custom. I write this, NOT as a condemnation, but as a constructive criticism, I wish you the best of Luck, By the way there will be another Gastr pub Near me opening in the new year in Canggu, so that is more competition. . went yesterday after a long while, there is no parking for cars and not much for bikes either, one of the waitresses got one of the guys to park my car for me, the drink price for guinness is still too high and the pizza we got was a disgrace, it was shocking, the chef should be shot. i wont be back as it is grossly overated. by the way wine at 700 a bottle cheapest white wine. ...
Read moreIn all my years of living in Bali, I have never been to an establishment this appalling. I made a reservation and arrived 5 minutes early. I was then made to wait 10 minutes with no explanation for the wait. At this point I should mention I took my grandmother with me who is struggling to walk and stand for long periods of time and, unfortunately, has a walking stick. I then walked up to one of the rudest waitresses I have ever had the displeasure of encountering, who held her hand up to my face and told me to “calm down as we’re all doing our best” after I had asked her nicely where our table was. She then told me in an equally condescending manner “we’re just clearing the guests at the table if you could wait 5 mins, can you do that?” I do not like being treated like a 5 year old when I’m reasonably asking for the table that I had already reserved a week in advance, not just because I had reserved it but because I knew I was taking my grandmother, who didn’t have a chair to sit while we waited. The food isn’t even worth this kind of treatment of their guests. The pork roast was dry and the sticky toffee pudding was hard. The music was extremely loud and any decent conversation had to be shouted to the person sat right next to you. If you are staying in canggu, or anywhere in Bali in general, there are much better options that isn’t going to waste your time or money. I now understand why the servers had no name tags as I would have very much called her out here. All I can say was she had a Bob, and while this may be petty, the smuggest look on her face which quickly fell off once she realised I was only trying to get my grandmother a table and a seat. If it wasn’t already obvious, I will not be returning and I will be sharing this experience with anyone...
Read moreTucked in cheeky Canggu Bali, this barn, as its given name The Barn Gastropub, reminded me my "olden" days in England. I seldom popped in pubs, since I don't really drink beer. But pub isn't only for beer drinkers, it's where you mingle with colleagues and friends, and sometimes you can find really scrumptious dishes.
This place is meant for those who crave British classics like Sunday Roast, Bangers n Mashes, etc. You know.. nothing fancy but hearty British foods your belly will be so comforted for days at least. According to my husband, he enjoyed Sunday roast. It was served with every bits of what roast has to offer; carrots, pumpkin, meat, fine beans, potatoes, cauliflower, horseradish sauce, and Yorkshire pudding.
Due to dietary restrictions, I don't eat meat-packed dish. But some veggies on the plate was good and well cooked. Though Yorkshire Pudding, it seems rather dry. Quite chewy too.
Not many options for vegetarians or pescatarians. Well, to be fair, they offer vegetarian roast, but I wasn't in the mood for that. Instead, I ordered calamari which was lightly fried, but well I didn't see the point of serving greasy kale leaves - obviously deep fried - with this.
Gimlet wasn't bad. It was quite dry, which I liked it. Quite a punch on citric aspect. Good amount of lime. But I think foods and ambience in overall are compatible with beer.
To finish up the meal, we ordered another British Classic Sticky toffee pudding. It wasn't bad, BUT, i can tell the sauce and pudding burnt a bit. Aftertaste was more than caramelised.
If you like classic British foods at affordable price, not a bad place to try. But if you like something similar but a bit more fine-dining touch, Mason in the neighborhood isn't...
