20.3.2024: Decided to pick an Indian cuisine restaurant to find out what it is like here in Sanur, Bali, Indonesia.
Food: Tandoori Murgh Malai Tikka Chicken. Wow, first taste of this dish and you know you are in for a treat. Well balanced (a non-spicy version) overall and super delicious. Good rice and very nice tastes. Non-vegetarian main Murgh Handi Laziz(?) Chicken. I asked for a spicy version and the waitress said that she is not responsible for my choice. I have a lot of experience with spicy food so it was obvious to have it spicy. The food is super delicious. It was exactly how i would have spiced it myself. Enough kick, heat and flavours. I enjoyed the dish a lot. There is no doubt about it, 5/5.
Service: very friendly and considerate/polite with the warning of spices. The staff is on the map, everyone knew what was served and to who. Just perfect 5/5.
Atmosphere: very clean, very stylish, very good background music, relaxed but high class. I loved everything. The places makes you feel appreciated as a customer. Clearly a 5/5.
Pricing is on the high side. It cost more than a generous nepalese buffet in Finland. This was around 32€ (Bali, Indonesia) vs the nepalese "all you can eat" -buffet 25€ (Finland). Complimentary Indian spiced cashews for free. We paid over half a million for two dishes, water, glass of white wine and a large beer. Overall the second most expensive place i have seen in this area. I usually aim for low cost high quality. We have eaten at some places for 1/4 of the price. But i must say something i have never said before: This time it (pricewise) was worth it. I am a very happy customer. I definetely recommend visiting this place if you are around here!
So far the best overall experience and review i have ever...
Read moreWe were in Bali around the same time last year (September of 2019) with our folks and were staying at the Hyatt Regency at Sanur. We discovered this place on the second night of our 7-night stay there, after a pretty unpleasant experience at the other Indian restaurant, bang opposite Ganesha's by the name of Gateway of India (more about them sometime later, but these guys are in a different league compared to them and in the same price range).
We ended up dining there thrice during our stay there and were pleasantly surprised every time. The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent, though not air conditioned, the place was cool courtesy the water-bodies inside the restaurant and the fact that everything is quite spaced out. The highlights of this place however were the: -- Food: some of the best Indian food we've ever had (including what we've had in India) - the taste was excellent without being too greasy or heavy and the portions & presentation were really good too. -- Service: exceptionally pleasant & warm service extended by Caroline & her team (we also met two of their chefs from India) and they were all a pleasure to deal with. in fact on one evening, when they had a classical Balinese dance performance, they got the performers to come and have photographs clicked with my dad-in-law, who was absolutely overjoyed - these small things can make all the difference :)
All-in-all, we loved Ganesha and while we only tried their Sanur outlet, am assuming their other restaurants would be living-up to similarly...
Read moreJust read the review of a guy who was at the ganesha for the buffet and i think i must have been at a different place yesterday, I have been twice for an alacarte meal and really enjoyed it, but i,m afraid i will never go back again for the buffet there was some finger food which the staff seemed reluctant to put on my plate and a so called paneer which was tofu, B butter chicken and a lamb on the bone posing as a rogan josh some jeera rice and a cauli and potato mixture and lookwarm water soup posing as a spicy tomato, there was some puri and the chef said he would make tandoori, which he was going to make on the grill, if there was a tandoor i couldnt see it, you had to ask for nan bread which came very small and very thin. and to make matters worse my wife was violently sick two hours after the only thing i didnt eat that she didnt was the but.ter chicken. Overall it was very underwhelming experience. I am 70 years old and have been eating indian food all over the world including in various parts of India. and this had no resemblance to an indian Buffet. I a restaurant is going to open for a buffet, there should be a large range of curries and some spice involved which there wasnt. Ver disappointing If money is tight shut down and dont do...
