Located a little bit further south of the Bali Hyatt Regency on the main street, Jl. Danau Tamblingan, is this little piece of Mexican delight (Bali style).
It is open onto the street, white plaster walls, with a palm roof verandah (complete with a small cactus garden). It is open every day from 11:30am to 10pm. We got there in the early evening, around 7pm, keen to get out of the heat we were happy to get a table in the glass enclosed rear dining area (which was air-conditioned with celling fans).
The staff were exceptionally friendly, keen to make sure that we were comfortable and getting a nice breeze to cool down. We opted for some guacamole and crispy battered jalapenos to start with, washed down with an apple mojito. The drinks were spot on just the right balance of fruit and alcohol. Both starters were freshly made but just lacking that spicy chilli bite that I like - I feel that they were playing it safe for customers. We then went for a selection of tacos: Carne Asado (grilled steak), Barbacoa (braised brisket), Carnitas (twice cooked pork), Adobado Chicken (grilled chicken), they were all very filling (though even after adding some hot sauce - weren't generating the heat I was after). I hindsight I should have left my wife eating the tacos and gone for the Mexican skewers - they looked mouthwatering. Maybe next time.
My only real complaint was the chain-smoking couple on the table next to us, who insisted on blowing the cigarette smoke in our direction whilst we were eating our meal. Even when I pointed out to them how disrespectful they were being they ignored my request and kept smoking. I know that the restaurant can't really control these type of customer behaviours, but it makes me glad that smoking is generally banned in restaurants in most countries...

We ordered Water (jug) 30,000 Watermelon Crush 45000 (non-alcoholic watermelon cocktail) Fresh lemonade 45,000 Guacamole 55,000 Chorizo compapas 45000 (spicy chorizo sausage with fried potatoes) Tacos carne asada 35,000 * 2 (tacos with beef) Tacos Baja California 30000x 2 (Fried fish tacos) Tacos Chicken Adobo 30000x 2 (Chicken Tacos) Churros 45000 Tortilla chips - maybe mistaken for salsa & chips for 40000 rupiah Total 577170 rupiah = JPY5,596
I especially liked the guacamole, chips, and churros there. The churros were freshly fried and came with vanilla ice cream and plenty of chocolate sauce. It was sprinkled with cinnamon, so the adults probably enjoyed it more than kids did. The guacamole was homemade with fresh avocado and was not spicy, but I could have eaten as much as I wanted with the chips. My daughter loved the chips and the tortilla part of the tacos and ate a lot of them. The sauce was not too spicy, so even my 4 year-old daughter was able to eat the chips with the sauce. The service throughout the restaurant was very nice and the gentleman who probably owns the place was very friendly and pleasant and most food was delicious, and we were very happy to have Mexican food after a long time. *We are heavy repeaters to Cancun who used to go there every year before Covid -19 pandemic. Although the overall spiciness of the food was quite moderate or not spicy at all, it was still tasty and probably better for family guests or other guests in Sanur. Highly...
Read moreIn a word... Jalepeno is AMAZING! I just dined here today for the second time since first arriving in Sanur. Stumbled upon this little gem while exploring the local shops and markets on foot. The house margarita happy hour special caught our eye and UJ welcomed us in and seated us at a table of our choosing, overlooking the street. UJ was a fabulous host. So friendly and personable and was happy to chat with us while we talked through the menu. The cocktails were on point and mixed using premium tequila and a range of special salts. I love a good jalepeno popper and have been craving them for some time, so was super excited when I saw them on the menu and boy did they not disappoint! Best jalapeno poppers I've ever tasted, by a long shot. My wife had the ceviche which the chef was happy to tweak, to accommodate her chili intolerance. She was in heaven from the flavours. Finally, my friend and I decided to try the prawn and chorizo soft tacos and my god they were to die for. We all loved the food so much that we made a special stop back in on our commute back from Nusa Lembongan to our next hotel in Seminyak, as we couldn't bear the thought of passing by, without another opportunity to experience the incredible flavours and hospitality on offer at Jalepeno. Cannot rate this place highly enough. Pop by to see UJ and let him welcome you to this flavour fiesta, you won't regret it =) Oh, they also play some great laid back tunes to keep the cruisy atmosphere...
