Unfortunately, in coming back after a few months, I’m forced to review my earlier review!
July 2025 The staff are still amazing nothing has changed there, love the location and everything about the place - except for the food.
It feels like the owner has got greedy. Lesser quality ingredients, & smaller serves.
For example tonight I had the lamb chops ($330.0000k so not cheap!) – for two very badly cut chops - which suggests he’s getting them from a low quality Butcher…
The bones had several cuts in them. The meat was almost impossible to access because of all the bone and the numerous cuts in the bone and I quite literally needed to use my hands to break it apart.
The meat was dry & a bit tough - even though it was cooked beautifully med/rare as I had asked.
Presentation was perfect!
The night before I had the lobster at 290,000k… there was very little Meat on it, it was dry, and again the meat was difficult to access (the meat hadn’t been removed from the carcass during prep). That’s not unusual I guess but that was also disappointing. That didn’t keep me away because that can sometimes happen with lobster based on my previous experience at this restaurant I wasn’t overly deterred.
Presentation again was perfect.
I don’t believe that this is a problem with the Chef. You can’t build a Mercedes out of Holden parts! Chef needs to be given better quality ingredients to work with.
These were both top dollar for no more than a snack in both cases.
Sadly, despite loving the staff and the location etc I probably won’t be back for much more than a coffee and maybe a couple of eggs (you can’t really buy poor quality eggs can you?).
There are so many excellent restaurants in Sanur, why would I spend above average on a below average meal?
This could explain why on Thursday and Friday evening more than half of the tables were empty. And you really cannot in any way blame this on the staff who are each super attentive, caring, and quite frankly, just perfect!
Back to my original review and nothing here has changed… staff are amazing!
November 2024 These guys nail it on every level….
Service, Food, Coffee AND Atmosphere… and great music!! 🎶🎵
VERRRY happy that I found them and this will most definitely be my go-to!!
From the outset, they were warm and welcoming - it sounds trite, but I really felt like I had been here before and was ‘coming home’…
Friendly, warm and welcoming with great food and the BEST Coffee…

Read moreSala Bistro is a beloved gem in Sanur that has been winning hearts since 2017, and its recent relocation to the bustling eat street has only added to its charm. As you step inside, you're enveloped by the inviting embrace of a space designed to make you feel right at home. With two floors adorned with cozy nooks, comfortable sofas, and warm wooden furnishings, the ambiance is nothing short of delightful.
The menu at Sala Bistro offers a diverse array of international dishes crafted from the freshest ingredients, catering to those with a penchant for healthy and wholesome dining. A standout feature is the exceptional coffee, courtesy of Seniman Coffee, which elevates the dining experience to new heights.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of sampling the tonic espresso, which left a lasting impression with its impeccable flavor profile. While the flat white fell a bit short of expectations, the overall coffee experience was a testament to the café's dedication to quality.
The Angus beef burger was a standout on the menu, delighting the palate with its flavors and textures. My only wish was for the fries to be a bit thicker to complement the hearty burger. Nevertheless, the dining experience was elevated by the attentive and friendly service provided by the team.
The rooftop sundowner experience was a particular highlight, offering a serene setting to unwind with a glass of wine in hand. The dinner menu was equally impressive, featuring special creations such as the modern take on bangers and mash, and the veggie-friendly eggplant parmigiana.
Sala Bistro's interior design is a true testament to its commitment to providing a welcoming and memorable dining experience. The thoughtful layout, comfortable furnishings, and attention to detail create an ambiance that beckons guests to linger and savor every moment.
Overall, Sala Bistro's relocation has only added to its allure, and it continues to be a neighborhood favorite for good reason. With its inviting ambiance, delectable offerings, and exemplary service, it's a place where patrons can truly feel at home while enjoying a memorable culinary journey.

Read moreI thought I would try one of the many “on trend” cafes in Sanur offering breakfast, brunch all day ,breakfast. “ Sala “ Situated on a busy corner, it has the appearance of being bright and inviting. Beware, do not sit at the tables at the front of the cafe. The noise from scooters , taxis and vans is constant. Also a large table of bright young things shrieking their heads off, The menu was well photographed and looked yummy I ordered an Earl Grey tea. I was told it only came by the mug. To my horror , I was presented with a mug of hot water, teabag on the side and all presented beautifully but totally unacceptable! It absolutely reminded me of the 2nd Marigold movie when the inspector was caught out being American because of hot water and teabag lol I digress! I’m afraid I couldn’t help myself and gave the staff a mini lecture in how tea should be made! It was like drinking hot water. Unfortunately, my effort was completely lost in translation! I ordered one poached egg on toast and a hash brown. The toast had a tiny smattering of butter in the centre, my egg I had to put on the toast, was over cooked and cold. As was the hash brown. It would’ve been a nice hash brown if it had not have been cold. The toast was sourdough and had been cooked on a grill that bacon and other meat products had been cooked. Big No No for vegans, vegetarians or haters of bacon and sausage . This cafe advertises V! I also had ordered a ‘mixed juice’. It was nice! I asked for it to be put in a takeaway cup so I could leave. I must say the staff were attentive. I had at least 4 attending me. One young waiter was most concerned that I didn’t enjoy my food and offered to reduce my bill! Which did not happen ! These new restaurants and cafes popping up on the main drag of Sanur, give the place a glamorous cosmopolitan look. Unfortunately, the French, Greek , Spanish and Italian restaurants don’t have authentic chefs, and the...
