Not as good as it was before the pandemic
Had a chance to visit this restaurant again after its long hiatus only to found out that they changed their menu. Ok, I thought. A new beginning and I was excited to try.
The wait staffs were friendly and because it wasn't too crowded, they let us choose our seat which was nice. We ended up being seated outside as it was so cramped inside. We choose the couch, it was comfy but their ceiling fan wasn't strong enough to accommodate us. We ended up feeling hot and it was quite uncomfortable.
I recommend this place to my friends because it used to have extensive menu choices. What they handed us today was their new text-only-menu. When I asked about their Tuna Martini --which was as far as I remember was the reason why I did always came back for more-- they mentioned that it is no longer available. My friend and I was quite disappointed.
Moving on, my friend and his wife ordered one of the bento and stir fry soba respectively but I'm not sure which one was which. So, I'm focusing my review only on the food that my husband and I ordered.
I ordered their Grilled Squid and Tempura Moriawase. Meanwhile my husband choosed the Sanur Bento and their Cold Soba. We both had Cold Ocha for drinks (free one time refill -- if you asked)
The wait for the food was average. While we wait, they served a plate of four pieces of appetizers that looked like samosa (for free/complimentary). It filled with fish and it was tasty.
These are my reviews on the food:
The Grilled Squid was quite good although the squid was chewy indicating that it was slightly overcooked. The Cold Soba is quite pleasant but the sauce was underseasoned and watery. We had to ask for additional soy sauce to correct the taste. Sanur Bento is quite good. The sashimi was fresh. But they didn't serve the sashimi with soy sauce. So... It felt incomplete. Tempura Moriawase has prawns, fish, mushroom, and other assorted vegetables. It was crispy, beautifully seasoned. But again, the sauce isn't up to my liking as it was tasteless and watery.
What I think they can do to improve their services:
Automatically deliver condiments to guests table without being asked. Basic condiments that goes well with Japanese Food like Soy Sauce, Wasabi, Gari/Pickled Ginger, as well as chilli powder/flakes. Complimentary unlimited ocha/green tea refill.
Overall a pleasant dining experience. Although quite mediocre. Not as terrific as it was but this is just a beginning. I'm sure that they want to and can improve their...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at what I believe is one of the finest Japanese restaurants in Sanur, and I must say, it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the inviting ambiance, which offers both outdoor and indoor seating options. I opted for an outdoor table, and to my surprise, the weather was perfect—pleasantly warm with a gentle breeze that enhanced my dining experience.
The menu was filled with enticing options, making it difficult to decide what to order, but I was determined to try a variety of dishes. I can confidently say that every single item I sampled was nothing short of delicious! The flavors were vibrant and expertly crafted, and the portion sizes were generous, making the prices feel incredibly reasonable.
The standout dishes for me were the clam soup and the tonkatsu curry rice. The clam soup was rich and flavorful, with perfectly cooked clams that melted in my mouth. As for the tonkatsu curry rice, it was an explosion of tastes—crispy, tender pork cutlet drenched in a beautifully spiced curry sauce, served over fluffy rice. I can’t emphasize enough how sensational these dishes were; each bite was a delight!
I left the restaurant thoroughly satisfied and already thinking about my next visit. I can wholeheartedly say that whenever I find myself in the Sanur area again, this restaurant will be at the top of my list. Highly recommended for anyone looking to indulge in incredible...
Read moreThe best restaurant in Bali!
My husband and I stayed in Bali for 3 weeks and visited this Japanese restaurant almost every day. We have eaten at many different restaurants in Bali and we can genuine say that this restaurant is by far the best restaurant on the whole island!
The menu is large and you can choose between different options, inklusive vegetarian and vegan options. All the dishes we tried were delicious and freshly prepared. The quality has always remained very high and we haven't had a single day when we didn't like our food. The fish melts in your mouth like butter, it's so fresh here. I recommend the salmon sashimi, it's just great!
The service is super nice and attentive, we really felt welcome here. My husband is a vegetarian and he always got a vegetarian option as a compliment from the chef, even though the original option is not a vegetarian one. Nevertheless, my husband's eating habits were taken into account and he was very happy!
We can definitely recommend this restaurant! We would like to thank all the cooks and waiters of Soya Restaurant: you made...
