Dominica @Jakarta Pusat. This stylish bistro-café absolutely nails the atmosphere, offering a chic, photo-ready setting with minimalist classic lighting, old home seating, and a music soundtrack. It’s clear the primary investment here was in aesthetics, and for those looking for a cozy corner for a catch-up or a business lunch, this spot delivers in spades. The experience, however, is a case study in style over substance, particularly when you receive the BILL. The pricing here is steep—unquestionably landing in the "very pricey" category. While you expect a premium for a prime location and classic Italian French decor, that premium needs to be justified by the culinary offerings. Unfortunately, the menu is merely adequate. It reads well on paper, featuring bistro classics and contemporary twists, but the execution of the dishes is simply okay. I tried the Honey Baked Brie salad for appetizer ( funny insanely sweet taste with only one kind of veggie), the main course we had Miso Black Cod with white rice, steak & rice, king prawn spaghetti, n truffle gnocchi. The flavors were safe, the presentation pretty, but ultimately forgettable. The food is certainly not bad, but it lacks the inventive spark or depth of flavor necessary to warrant the cost. Luckily I was amused by the tiramisu, it was almost excellent. The one element that truly redeemed the overall experience was the good service. The waiter, was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely friendly without being intrusive. Plates were cleared promptly, no free ice water like a Michelin bistro but every request was handled with professionalism. The service team operates at the good handling training. The Verdict: This resto is a splendid choice if you prioritize ambiance and impeccable service above all else. It’s the perfect place for a stylish dine in or a coffee meeting where the setting, welcoming dough n brioche matters more than the main course. But if you’re a serious foodie looking for a culinary experience that justifies the hefty check, you might walk away feeling that the décor was the best part of your meal. Read moreLast evening, I had the distinct pleasure of dining at Dominica Jakarta, a fine establishment that evokes the quiet grandeur of a Continental supper club, touched with a whisper of modern ease. I was most taken with the manner in which the kitchen conducts its affairs — gracious in portion, deliberate in preparation, and executed with the kind of restraint that speaks not of austerity, but of taste.
I began with the Caesar Salad, its leaves chilled and crisp as morning linen, dressed in a sauce of subtle boldness — neither cloying nor timid. The Rib Eye Steak followed, rich with its own jus, tender beneath the knife, and kissed with char as though by a Tuscan flame. The Salmon Steak proved an equal delight — moist, fragrant, and perfectly turned. And as for the Profiteroles, they were a confectionery epilogue worthy of the most refined salon: light, airy, and filled with a cream that seemed to sigh rather than speak.
The pricing, while leaning toward the upper register, is in my opinion a worthy exchange for the quality and balance of the experience. The portions, neither paltry nor excessive, are what one might expect in a private supper hosted by a seasoned cosmopolite — substantial enough to satisfy, yet elegant in measure.
My only lament — albeit slight — was the unwelcome company of mosquitoes in the open-air section. I had originally chosen to dine amidst the evening breeze, but was soon compelled to retreat indoors. To their credit, the staff were most attentive, offering repellant with grace and arranging my move to the non-smoking quarters with minimal fuss.
In sum, Dominica is a rare delight — a house where the table is both generous and judicious, the ambiance poised yet unpretentious. It is a destination to which I shall return, and recommend to any soul who finds joy in the finer rhythms...
Read moreDominica never disappoints when it comes to quality Italian flavors. My absolute favorite here is their Caesar salad, fresh, crisp, and packed with flavor. For pasta, they nail the al dente texture. The King Prawn Spaghetti is a standout with its rich seafood essence, while the Truffle Cream Gnocchi is pure comfort food. If you're feeling adventurous, the Escargot Risotto is an elegant must-try, delivering that perfect best Italiano experience.
For mains, I highly recommend the Wagyu Flat Iron Steak, tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The Pan Roasted Salmon is decent but nothing extraordinary. Now, if you're dining with kids (like we always do), pizza is a non negotiable. We tried two kinds but ended up reordering the Four Cheese Pizza, absolutely addictive. The Honey Brie Pizza was interesting, but the four cheese stole the show.
To end on a sweet note, we had the Tiramisu, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. However, the Valrhona Cookie Skillet was just right. The warm, melty Valrhona chocolate paired with creamy vanilla gelato was perfection. And of course, wine makes everything better, our pairings were spot on. remember to order their Burrata as well 😁
Love their ambience and superb service, with a nice attitude from the sommelier as well.
Note: They also offer valet service if you drive your own car.
🍷Pro tip: You can bring your own bottle without a corkage fee if you purchase at least one bottle from Dominica. Otherwise, the fee is IDR 500K. For me, it’s better to order one and bring one, great deal. Definitely a place worth...
