I just know that this place is Pak Bondan's cafe. Then i realized at the down below menu there is Pak Bondan face or signature picture. So, do not get hesitate to enjoy your coffee time in here. The easy way to get there is come in from Sarinah (mcd sarinah) take a straight way until you can see the traffic lamp then turn the left. Take another straight way until you can see another traffic lamp but don't turn to anywhere. See from your left side, this coffee shop will be seen there. Yep, before you go to Nasi Goreng Kebon Sirih, you will through this place! The building looks so old school without noisy bilboard or anything but I like it. Pak Bondan keep the classic theme for his place. And when you come in, the decoration, seat and table are so old school and vintage too. With some of pictures with some words hanging in the wall. Very very classic. In front side is for non-smoking area, if you are looking smoking area you go straight in to deep the coffee shop and then you come in a quite dark room with good space smoking area. Again, the decoration, seat and table with pictures and words hanging in the wall with old school style are there. But don't worry, although the place is so old school and classic, you still can feel cozy and comfy. I saw that way anf felt that way too. There is also good and nice smell and clean restroom. To call the staff or waitress you can press the bell that available in every table. The menu? So variative. So many options but I've seen more noodles options or light meal options there. And the most cute things is how every menu get the namr write down in. With Dutch spelling with Dutch writing style. Some picture are vintage style simple, claddic and cute. Again, so so old school but uniqe and different in a good way! The coffee? Well, taste really strong and deep and I know Pak Bondan will never disappointment us. His taste of coffee, you can't never and need it to hesitate about it. It's like you drink a very good quality coffee beans chosen to get serve there. And it makes me remembering his expression when he give a good compliment for good meals and drink which is "maknyus". It was such a honorable for me to get chance to got my coffee there. I know, some people might not agree with me but thats fine. Maybe how we describe about coffee are different and thats normal and good. But I loved this coffee place! If the price feeling too expensive, I will say...
Read moreKopitiam Oey is a business venture owned by a well-known culinary figure, ‘Om’ Bondan Winarno. With his extensive knowledge and experience in food, he has utilized all of that to create this kopitiam business. Kopitiam itself is defined as a typical coffee shop, and Om Oey himself designed it in a Chinese style. Oh, by the way, if you didn't know, ‘Oey’ is actually pronounced ‘Wi,’ which is an abbreviation of the first syllable of the teacher's last name. So, when I mentioned Mr. Oey earlier, I was referring to Mr. Winarno.
At first, I didn't realize it was his, but you can see his photos everywhere. I only found out later from the internet. For the interior, it’s old-school Chinese with wooden chairs and tables in an old-fashioned style, so there are no cushions at all. Pictures are everywhere on the walls, old advertisements, newspaper/magazine articles, menus with large pictures, and you can laugh at the funny pictures. The place isn't very big, so you can see the kitchen in the back. Overall, the place has a warm and comfortable atmosphere, both during the day and at night.
The “old-fashioned” vibe is further enhanced by the unique wall decorations. Take a look at the floor. The patterned tiles further reinforce the “old-fashioned” atmosphere of this place.
The totality of the “old-fashioned” aroma also permeates the menu book. The cover is styled like an old newspaper with unrefined spelling. The language used in the menu book is also from the old days. This style of language is also often used by Bondan Winarno when answering questions on Twitter.
I ordered two dishes for my iftar meal: Butter Sarikaya Bread and Dutch Egg Bread. Both are delicious bread dishes. The first dish uses toasted whole wheat bread, filled with butter and sweet sarikaya jam. Delicious. The second dish is a slice of bread filled with a Dutch-style egg mixture with various fillings. It has a savory taste with a hint of sourness and sweetness. It’s truly unique.
I enjoyed the bread with a glass of Ijs Koffie Keponakan, a blend of coffee, milk, and palm sugar. It’s very sweet, but it doesn’t overpower the coffee flavor.
It’s...
Read moreIf you're looking for breakfast spot around Thamrin area, Oey Kopitiam could be one of the better options around. Located in one of the most popular culinary street in Jakarta - Jalan Sabang, this humble coffee shop is frequently visited by international tourists looking to indulge in authentic local establishment. Also a popular hangout spot for youngsters, this place could feel stuffed during peak hours. Smoking area is located at the 2nd floor.
They serve different menus on each meal time (breakfast - lunch - dinner) and unfortunately we can't order any food from other meal time so the choice gets kinda limited.
Favorite choice for breakfast: Bubur Ayam Oey (porridge with chicken broth soup & various toppings) or any Toast Bread (I recommend the Srikaya & Choco Cheese) to go with your morning cup of coffee. The Club Sandwich is also great though it took longer time to be served so if you’re not in rush it should be no problem. I tried the Nasi Tiem Ajam Petak 9 but sadly the rice tasted like porridge and the chicken wasn't up to my expectation of normal steamed chicken rice. For light bites, I would recommend the Singkong Goreng Sambal Roa, crispy & tasty.
And yes, you definitely shouldn't miss the Koffie Susu Indotjina (Vietnamese coffee) - black coffee drip with condensed milk. One of the best milk coffee ever & perfect choice for...
