Iâve been to Union at Central Park a few times during my work trips, and while the ambiance is consistently charmingâwith its chic brasserie-style setting and warm lightingâthe overall experience can be hit-or-miss.
On my first visit, everything ran smoothly. The service was attentive, and the foodâmostly Western with some local touchesâwas satisfying. Their Caesar salad with onsen egg was flavorful and well-balanced, the pasta rich and hearty, and their cakes (especially the ube and peanut butter varieties) were indulgent highlights. The drinks were also a pleasant surprise, offering a good mix of classics and signature cocktails.
Bonus note - We also had the escargot and calamari, and was amazed at how big the escargots were.
Unfortunately, my second visit was a letdown. One of the servers ignored us when we requested menus, and I eventually had to approach another waiter just to get some attention. Itâs not a deal-breaker, but the inconsistency in service definitely dulled the experience.
On another occasion, they were running a Japanese cocktail specialâbut ironically had run out of Japanese whiskey and rum as well. It was disappointing, especially since the special menu still advertised it. For a place of this calibre, itâs something they should manage better in terms of stock and communication.
Overall, Union is a nice spot for dinner if youâre in the area and craving for nice ambiance, Western fare or desserts with flair. But depending on the day, your experience might range from stellar to just okay. If you go, I recommend the pasta, drinks and dessertâthose are their...
Read moreHonestly expected more from Union Group.
The food is mediocre at best. We ordered the truffle kwetiau, the Union Burger, the Escargot, the Prawn Mie Jawa, the Pork Crackling Spaghetti, and the Popcorn Chicken.
Firstly, the service took way too long. We had to wait close to an hour before the food we ordered was served, only to find that most of the food is bland, lacking in texture and flavor.
Secondly, we had to ask for the same things multiple times before the wait staff finally accommodated to our requests. Something as simple as getting some napkins or getting more water for the tea or asking for some extra bread for our escargot or even asking for some sambal and tomato sauce. Everything felt like slow motion.
The kweytiau was so bad that we couldn't even finish it even if we tried. The only saving grace that Union has is their cakes. The cakes are good still and the quality is consistent with most of the other Union locations everywhere.
Personally, I've experienced many meals in various Union locations but so far this one is the only one that has disappointed me. Perhaps it is the holidays and the primary chef took leave or they were lacking in support staff, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Will eventually come back and hopefully could update my...
Read morefood and atmosphere is good but the food serving time is just not it. I waited 40 minutes for a mushroom soup to be served out, and 1 hour for a roasted baby chicken to be served out. and the restaurants tables are not even all full
and this is without getting informed that the food will take a while. other tables complained too about the time but they got their food earlier than me when they ordered after me. shouldve been nice if i had been informed that my specific order would take a longer than others.
service couldve been better too if compared to other union stores. the first time i asked a server regarding my food that took a while after 30 minutes he answered with âthe others havent got their food yet too. please waitâ đ¤Śđťââď¸ asked another server for how long it will take, he went to check and never come back. đ
place is good tho and the female employee by the door is friendly and nice. reservation is easy too. however overall iâd rather go to another union...
