Finally decided to try the Suan Cai Yu here after sometime. Let's start with the easiest first, the suancaiyu is tasty, the portion is quite generous for Indonesian standard (but compared to the US with slightly more expensive price, the portion is considered mediocre). We ordered the non-spicy fish soup thinking that I can always add spiciness later with chopped chili, but this option doesn't allow you to have mala seeds cooked in it. Nevertheless the soup still come with a few chopped chilis, which is a surprise but luckily our toddler didn't eat it. The fried corn kernels with salted egg sauce is also very good, saw that on many tables. We also order the egg tofu with chicken, the portion is on the smaller side especially the amount of shredded chicken is lacking. A bowl of rice cost Rp 15k (USD 1) but the portion of rice is quite small.
Now onto the service, although the waiter & waitress are attentive, the food took some time to be delivered which is why I took 1 star off. The restaurant layout are also squeezed to the limit which make it hard to move around, especially if you bring a stroller with you. It is quite pricey too for typical Indonesian restaurant standard, it will easily cost you around Rp 200k++/pax (around...
Read moreSuji - Suan Cai Yu is a fantastic restaurant that stands out for its exceptional Chinese cuisine, especially their signature dish, the sour green pickled fried fish. This dish was incredibly delicious, with a perfect balance of tangy and savory flavors that left us wanting more.
In addition to the signature fish, we also ordered the Szechuan green beans and the lemon fried chicken. The Szechuan green beans were spicy and perfectly cooked, with a delightful crunch. The lemon fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a refreshing hint of lemon that complemented the dish beautifully.
We dined as a family of six, and although the prices were on the higher side, the quality and taste of the food made it worth every penny. The portions were generous, and each dish was well-presented and flavorful. The restaurant's ambiance was cozy and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings.
Overall, Suji Suan Cai Yu offers an excellent dining experience with top-notch food. Despite being a bit pricey, the delicious dishes and the pleasant atmosphere make it a great place for enjoying a meal with family or friends. Highly...

back to Suji-Suan Cai Yu for the second time to satisfy craving of Bing Fen (Chengdu-style jelly dessert) and takeaway Stir-fried potato noodle (soun ubi Chengdu) and Suji’s steamed eggs with chicken (tim telur daging ayam). What I dislike about takeaway is the fact that restaurant tend to prioritize dine-in, and that’s exactly happened here. So...
