AYU BALI RESTO — Restaurant in Kuta

The plan: I was exceptionally hungry and eagerly anticipating dinner tonight! I was looking forward to a lovely evening with family, enjoying delicious seafood by the beach.

The reality: Really disappointing. Considering the cost of food, wages etc in Bali are very very low compared with Australia, I would expect to pay far less than Australian prices for seafood.

When a plate of battered fish and chips (the quality of which was that of your average local takeaway and the quantity being 2 pieces of fish and literally a handful of chips) costs $50, I would expect a lot more!

The "vegetables" were not vegetables at all, they were sauteed spinach leaves with no dressing.

Other than chilli sauce and tomato sauce and salt, there were no condiments served with your seafood.

The price for prawns was $60/kg!? I wouldn't pay that in Australia!?

The service was average, the waitress was lovely but it wasn't 5* service to justify the cost.

The atmosphere was ok, but ruined by terrible singing and roaming buskers who then requested money after playing a song at our table without asking us first.

The atmosphere was amazing especially during sunset and the views were breathtaking. But that's as far as I can say. The food came 1 hour late, the staff didn't care too much about us despite several complaints about the time. We ordered set menu B + one more white fish. The seafood themselves weren't that great, most of them are cooked the same way at seemingly the same length of time meaning the one of the fish was good, the other was chewy, the lobster was too chewy, the crab had barely anything, though the calamari and kangkung were nice and the sambal matah was very good. However, I wouldn't recommend the food overall. At the end we were charged with 17% service charge - the cheek when the food was severely delayed and the staff was nonchalant and at times felt deliberately tried to avoid us. For the view, I would recommend other restaurants on the seafront, I wish I went to a different restaurant. The bad service led to a bad mood and with that the experience was overall...

DO NOT ENTER! This place is an absolute tourist trap. You will be delivered by your driver ($$$) promising a great seafood meal on the beach but will leave sorely disappointed. When you arrive you will be driven into a pitstop-like entrance to waiting staff who are overly eager to welcome you. This should have been the first indication that this "candy house" promises only misfortune. You'll be guided to a lovely spot on the beach and enticed to order a seafood banquet that on the surface may seem reasonable... As you relax into the soft sand waiting for your meal, you'll quickly notice the cacophony of diverse musical genres starkly competing for patrons attention from the various vendors along the beach. Hardly tranquil. Then the food is delivered. Cold, precooked and flavourless. The exit is a godsend, but not before you've paid the bill. Prepare for a gut punch. Needless to say the drive back to the hotel was icy cold. Not an ideal way to end...
