Amidst the hustle of Ngurah Rai Airport lies Warung Made, a name that echoes with the allure of Balinese culinary tradition, much like its predecessor in Seminyak that left a lasting impression on us. In an attempt to recapture that gastronomic magic, we ordered their signature Nasi Campur Ala Made and the Rujak Gula Bali.

The Nasi Campur was a delightful journey through the local cuisine, each component cooked to perfection, marrying flavors in a celebration of the island’s heritage on a plate. It resonated with the authenticity and warmth one anticipates from Warung Made, embodying the rich, complex flavors of Bali.

Contrastingly, the Rujak Gula Bali was a departure from the fond memories of balanced tanginess. The mangoes, integral to the dish, were exceedingly sour, overshadowing the sweet and spicy notes that should have danced through the dish. This stark acidity was a jolt from the expected harmony of flavors, a small letdown in an otherwise comforting culinary refuge.

Made's Warung (Since 1969) Domestic Terminal Bali Airport 24th April, 2024

I've just had my worst meal since having been in Indonesia for several months.

Madé's Warung Domestic Airport Terminal, Bali.

The only ok thing about it were the apologetic staff. Boy did they have some things to apologise for.

Here we go (I kid you not).

My order was taken 10 mins before a new customer arrived. They were served significantly before me.

Food took a LONG time to arrive. I thought ordering 40 mins before I would need to leave the restaurant to board a flight would be ample time for food to arrive, & myself enjoy a leisurely meal in an establishment that should be familiar with prompt service for air travellers. It took 25 - 30 mins for my food to arrive, after me saying twice that I would need to leave, if the food does not arrive shortly.

Spring Rolls ordered - hot on the outside (as you would expect). FROZEN in the middle.

Next up . . . Cap Cai (Soup)

I specifically asked for no seafood & chicken only. The Indonesian style soup had approx 6 shrimps floating in it.

Luckily I am not allergic to seafood. Pity the 1st customer who is, & orders the Cap Cai.

Serve of steamed rice was near raw. You've got to wonder when an Indonesian cook can't prepare rice.

When I mentioned the rice, the waiter's response was "It's not our chef, it's the rice cooker (machine)" 😂😂

Items / Total Cost (incl tax) 1 small Bintang Spring Rolls (3, frozen on the inside) Cap Cai Soup - containing seafood I specifically requested not to include Serve of steamed rice - near raw (I felt ¾ of the Cap Cai & rice - inedible.)

Total Price: 193,000 Rupiah !! And that Includes a 10% discount for the spring roll failure!

When I clearly, & oh so politely, communicated the other meal failures, & asked if I should only pay for the beer, I was told "you've already got a discount - No")

Nothing about this was "lost in translation", just extremely unprofessional hospitality food service.

Incredibly expensive. Equally BAD.

Tempat Terminal Bandara Domestik Warung Made, Bali.

Satu-satunya hal yang baik tentang itu adalah staf yang meminta maaf.  Anak laki-laki apakah mereka memiliki beberapa hal untuk meminta maaf.

Ini dia (saya tidak bercanda).

Pesanan saya diambil 10 menit sebelum pelanggan baru tiba.  Mereka disajikan secara signifikan sebelum saya.

Makanan butuh waktu lama untuk tiba.  Saya pikir memesan 40 menit sebelum saya harus meninggalkan restoran untuk naik pesawat akan menjadi waktu yang cukup untuk makanan tiba, & saya sendiri menikmati makanan santai di tempat yang harus terbiasa dengan layanan cepat untuk pelancong udara.  Butuh 25 - 30 menit untuk makanan saya tiba, setelah saya mengatakan dua kali bahwa saya harus pergi, jika makanan tidak segera tiba.

Sajikan nasi kukus hampir mentah.  Anda pasti bertanya-tanya kapan seorang juru masak Indonesia tidak bisa menyiapkan nasi.

Ketika saya menyebutkan nasi, respon pelayan adalah "Bukan koki kami, itu penanak nasi (mesin)" 😂😂

SUPER mahal, meskipun makanan dan layanannya bagus.

Mereka tidak.  Makanan & layanannya SANGAT tidak profesional.

I was contemplating what to have during my transit in Bali airport. I heard so much about ox tail soup (sup buntut) so I have this a try. My verdict? First the appearance was good and they cleared the oil on top (normally it could be very fatty). The meat was tender and off the bone easily, indicated it has been cooked long enough while the carrot and potato weren’t too soft (may have been cooked separately) While there was some fat on the meat, there were just right and not overpowering. Now the negative. 1) the soup was far too salty by itself although it was marginally acceptable with the rice and potato 2) since we are going to eat the rice (nasi) with the soup, it would be better in a bowl rather than a plate. 3) the “cracker” on the side was a bit soft 4) since the potatoes and carrots may be cooked separately, they didn’t absorb the taste... My overall score? May be 6.5. I deducted the marks for the saltiness and the meat mainly made up the marks... final word? Could be better and I won’t be back for...

When I mentioned the rice, the waiter's response was "It's not our chef, it's the rice cooker (machine)" 😂😂 Items / Total Cost (incl tax) 1 small Bintang Spring Rolls (3, frozen on the inside) Cap Cai Soup - containing seafood I specifically requested not to include Serve of steamed rice - near raw (I felt ¾ of the Cap Cai & rice - inedible.) Total Price: 193,000 Rupiah !! And that Includes a 10% discount for the spring roll failure! When I clearly, & oh so politely, communicated the other meal failures, & asked if I should only pay for the beer, I was told "you've already got a discount - No") Nothing about this was "lost in translation", just extremely unprofessional hospitality food service. Tempat Terminal Bandara Domestik Warung Made, Bali. Satu-satunya hal yang baik tentang itu adalah staf yang meminta maaf.  Anak laki-laki apakah mereka memiliki beberapa hal untuk meminta maaf. Ini dia (saya tidak bercanda). Pesanan saya diambil 10 menit sebelum pelanggan baru tiba.  Mereka disajikan secara signifikan sebelum saya. Makanan butuh waktu lama untuk tiba.  Saya pikir memesan 40 menit sebelum saya harus meninggalkan restoran untuk naik pesawat akan menjadi waktu yang cukup untuk makanan tiba, & saya sendiri menikmati makanan santai di tempat yang harus terbiasa dengan layanan cepat untuk pelancong udara.  Butuh 25 - 30 menit untuk makanan saya tiba, setelah saya mengatakan dua kali bahwa saya harus pergi, jika makanan tidak segera tiba. Spring Rolls dipesan - panas di luar (seperti yang Anda harapkan).  BEKU di tengah. Selanjutnya .  .  .  Cap Cai (Sup) Saya secara khusus meminta tidak ada makanan laut & ayam saja.  Sup gaya Indonesia memiliki kira-kira 6 udang mengambang di dalamnya. Untung saya tidak alergi seafood.  Kasihan pelanggan pertama, & pesan Cap Cai. Sajikan nasi kukus hampir mentah.  Anda pasti bertanya-tanya kapan seorang juru masak Indonesia tidak bisa menyiapkan nasi. Ketika saya menyebutkan nasi, respon pelayan adalah "Bukan koki kami, itu penanak nasi (mesin)" 😂😂 Item / Total Biaya (termasuk pajak) SUPER mahal, meskipun makanan dan layanannya bagus. Mereka tidak.  Makanan & layanannya SANGAT tidak profesional. 1 bintang kecil Lumpia (3, beku di dalam) Sup Cap Cai - berisi makanan laut yang secara khusus saya minta untuk tidak disertakan Sajikan nasi kukus - hampir mentah (Saya merasa ¾ dari Cap Cai & nasi - tidak bisa dimakan.) Total Harga: 193.000 Rupiah!! Dan itu termasuk diskon 10% untuk kegagalan lumpia! Ketika saya dengan jelas, & oh dengan sangat sopan, mengom

I was contemplating what to have during my transit in Bali airport. I heard so much about ox tail soup (sup buntut) so I have this a try. My verdict? First the appearance was good and they cleared the oil on top (normally it could be very fatty). The meat was tender and off the bone easily, indicated it has been cooked long enough while the carrot and potato weren’t too soft (may have been cooked separately) While there was some fat on the meat, there were just right and not overpowering. Now the negative. 1) the soup was far too salty by itself although it was marginally acceptable with the rice and potato 2) since we are going to eat the rice (nasi) with the soup, it would be better in a bowl rather than a plate. 3) the “cracker” on the side was a bit soft 4) since the potatoes and carrots may be cooked separately, they didn’t absorb the taste... My overall score? May be 6.5. I deducted the marks for the saltiness and the meat mainly made up the marks... final word? Could be better and I won’t be back for the price...
