First time that we tried this restaurant. We ordered mix platter and steamed rice, total around 275k. The staff were polite and friendly. Atmosphere was okay, good to eat and have a little chat. It wasn’t busy when we came.
For the food: chicken wings: I’m not a chicken wing eater, so I can’t really compare. But the texture was great. Tender and juicy. No sauce on the chicken wings, so it’s more like fried chicken? They were good but I find them a little out of place with the rest of the platter. Would have been more cohesive if they put some bbq sauce or korean style sauce on it.
french fries: great! 👍🏻
pork belly: tender but not very crispy. Overall okay. More fat than the meat.
ribs: they were juicy and tender, love the texture. I forgot which kind we ordered but it was supposed to be sweet and savoury. There was this particular taste in the marinade (oyster sauce?) that got my tongue confused, is this supposed to be a western / eastern flavor?
sauces: 7k for each extra sauce (we got 2 sauces with the platter). From left to right: sweet & sour, creamy black pepper, black pepper, and truffle.
Sweet & sour: tasted like sweet chilly & lime. Love the tanginess, very fresh, not spicy despite the looks. Texture was good.
Creamy black pepper: love the sweetness of the cream. Texture was good.
Black pepper: my least favorite. It was okay, too watery to be a sauce.
Truffle: love the truffle aroma, texture was too watery.
Overall, the food was good. However not sure if it the taste was supposed to be western / eastern? Fusion? Humm they didn’t mix quite well. Separately was good though.
Would I come back? Sure. 😊 But I wont be having the chicken wings and the watery sauces....
Read morePorkstar prides itself on serving pork dishes, and does it very well. We got pork ribs, pasta with pork bits, pork bites, and many other delicacies. Of special note are the side dishes; most meals come with a fairly flexible choice of tertiary food items to complement the main meal (sure, it usually boils down to potatoes and sauce, but it's still great). You're given a choice between either baby potatoes or french fries, and if you're more of a rice person you even have an option to have Butter Rice beside your dishes. Their truffle sauce is especially notable for a good dip alongside your finger foods, and their pasta options are remarkably varied, with their pork bacon pastas standing out as a clear favorite. Their pork ribs are tender and goes well with the included sauce (although personally I could've done with even more sauce, but to each their own), and if you order fries to go with it, they're fried to a crispy golden brown. In simple terms, the fries are good.
Only gripe I can think of is the atmosphere. It's not gonna beat the decor of your average franchise restaurant, but I can comfortably say that even if the atmosphere is a tad bland for my taste, they definitely know what vibe they're trying to nail with a cargo container repurposed into a kitchen at the front of the establishment and the old-timey, homey feel of the building it's nested in. If you're in the mood for some good pork eatin', stop by sometime. There's bound to be something you'll take a liking to...
