A recent visit to Lapidoth Cafe & Patisserie in Malang revealed a delightful blend of ambiance, flavor and architectural charm. The cafĂ© nestles within the Hotel Pelangi Malang building, lending a Dutchâheritage aesthetic that immediately captures attentionâvintage walls and large windows create a gentle, relaxed mood. Many patrons highlighted that the setting alone makes it âan attraction itselfâ.
On the menu, the selection spans Western mains, Indonesian adaptations and an array of desserts and pastries that impress by both variety and portion size. The smoky tuna or salmon dish with chili sauce and papaya leaves stood out for its bold flavor. Smoothies similarly earned praise for being balancedâfruity with coconut undertones and not overly sweet, which is a welcome nuance.
Service and environment score high: friendly, prompt, and ultimately conducive for work or casual gathering. One reviewer described the place as âreally quietâ and wellâsuited for conversation. On the flip side, some dishes such as the burger and steak were perceived as a little average compared to the dessert standouts, and pricing edges toward the higher side given the added hotel context.
Looking ahead, a few refinements could elevate the experience further. Optimising mains to match the excellence of the pastriesâperhaps by enhancing sauce complexity or adjusting seasoningâwould create a more balanced offering. Ensuring portion consistency and visible value for mains helps justify the premium. A streamlined queue or reservation system during peak hours could address the crowding noted by some guests. Also, further cultivating the cafĂ©âs heritage ambianceâperhaps through curated lighting or subtle Dutch architectural storytellingâwould deepen its unique identity and boost appeal for both locals and visitors.
In sum, Lapidoth Cafe & Patisserie delivers an elegant, comfortable cafĂ© experience anchored in tasteful dĂ©cor and standout dessert craftsmanship. With minor tuning of its savory offerings and operational flow, itâs poised to become a definitive cafĂ©...
Read moreFood is great, I've never had a problem although other guests have found it hit and miss. I guess I'm just lucky every time đ Best place to visit near Alun".
Drinks: Mocktails are great, I've tried most, as is the ice lemon tea - not too sweet, some bite of acridness from the tea and dried lemon slice. Similar deal with the mocktails I guess. Presentation is usually great too. Coffee is good. Barista machine here.
Foods: There's quite a varied selection. I've never had a bad dish, but the Indonesian ones aren't as good. Recommend the very wet beef burger, parmesan-y red sauce spaghetti, quesadillas, steak sandwich, calamari, ... Desserts are all great too, but I highly recommend the Berry French Toast, it's insane! Comes with ice cream, candy...
Read moreA comfy place to hangout, a bit pricy but the food is totally worth it. I love the smoothies. The smoothies are delicious, the combination of fruit and coconut flavors blends into the right combination and not too sweet. The food here has big portions and tastes great! Creamy pasta is quite tasty but a little sweet. The smoked tuna/salmon is really delicious, it has a strong smoked taste accompanied by chili sauce and papaya leaves which support the taste of the smoked salmon, quite recommended. (Fyi, the papaya leaves aren't bitter at all. Kudos...
