The Sampan - Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner — Restaurant in Nusa Penida Subdistrict

We were with a group of 5. Our waiter didn’t speak proper English and kept on needing an interpreter. We all ordered at the same time. One of us got the Rendang within 5 minutes, the rest of us ordered the fish fillets. The kids got theirs 15 minutes later with a really spicy sauce covering the grilled fish, completely spoiling the fish flavour. We ordered it with butter sauce which was served in a bowl on the side.

We sent it back and I went to the kitchen (being a chef myself I felt the need to explain) and was told we would have to wait longer because we would be at the bottom of the row. I said we wanted fish without any sauce over it. They then brought the fish with BBQ sauce on it which again was very spicy. We sent it back again because it was too spicy for the kids.

By this time, we nearly finished the bottle of wine and were getting quite annoyed.

Then the fish for the kids came but we had to wait another 10 minutes before the last two fish fillets arrived, leaving everyone else finished but the last two people. It was a disgrace. The food was average, really overpriced and it took at least 1 hour and 45 minutes before we had any food.

I complained and got 3 free desserts and 2 coffees to compensate, but our evening was spoilt. We contemplated walking out without paying after waiting for the bill for another 20 minutes, but we wanted to spread good karma so we paid. Kids area is nice yes, and so is the pool table (despite the massive cut in the cloth). Atmosphere and band are nice but loud. Our advice: don’t go here if you want a good night out. Don’t go by the 5 star reviews because they’re probably fake!

A real shame for a place with a lot of potential. They need a proper floor manager who doesn’t drink cocktails at the bar and knows how to run a restaurant. The staff try really hard but they can’t make up for...

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. • There were insects and many geckos crawling on the walls, which made the place feel extremely unhygienic. • We waited 47 minutes for our food, while I had a hungry 2-year-old child crying for food. • The staff were unfriendly, unorganized, and seemed annoyed whenever we asked for something. Instead of working, they were just standing around chatting with each other. • There were no napkins on the table. • After a long wait, I had to ask about the food myself. They told me “everything was finished,” and when the food finally came, it was cold. The staff simply said, “sorry, the waiter forgot.” • I ordered one fish dish, but they tried to charge me for two, even though only one was served. • I requested bread, but it took another 20 minutes to arrive. • Drinks (Pepsi with ice) were served so late that the ice had already melted. • Every request felt like a burden to the staff, who looked annoyed instead of being professional.

I’ve tried many restaurants in Bali and was always happy with the food and service — except here. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, and I cannot recommend this...

Awesome food service and atmosphere ⭐️ Do yourself a favour and get the king of seafood, freshly caught local seafood at a great price. I feel ordering your kids calamari and chips at the start With initial drinks would mean that your kid would be serve food pretty quickly, We ordered our main meals after second drinks and received items of the grill section cold straightaway. Cold ribs and undercooked steak, like blue! No kids meal and nothing from the kitchen for my partner. The wait was so long that we gave up, and trying to explain to staff is not existent and still have to pay for most of it.
