Marabunta Resto & Bar — Restaurant in Semarang

I’m a regular at Marabunta for almost two years now. The Team behind created something very unique not only for Semarang but for Central Java. I find they are on the way destroying their great reputation. Over the past 6 month it became more and more obvious, that a shift from giving a great culinary experience to their guests, to a purely commercial institution is carried out. For my tonight experience it is important to know, that it was crowded, but nothing out of the ordinary. Additionally I got the information, that their long standing restaurant manager had resigned . 1. Food wasn’t served after 1 hour, so I had to cancel leaving the restaurant without having eaten. 2. During my order I was told, that a change of side dish is only possible with an additional 50k IDR (absolutely impudent). Even it was clearly mentioned in the menu, that the dish can be chosen. I asked the waiter to check this with the on duty floor manager. The manager than declined uninterested. It was more important for him to discuss handphone videos with his staff at the bar. 3. My friends received the wrong rice dish. After splitting the portion to another sharing plate and already eaten some, the waiter realized the wrong table delivery. He than came back to our table rearranged the dish on one plate and delivered it to the right table. All of us where shocked that this was conducted as something totally normal. 4. During leaving I wanted to discuss my experience with the floor manager. He than again declined, laughing it away with his buddies at the bar. From which he didn’t move during our time there at all. I like to point out, that due to the holiday season, the majority of the guest where most likely tourists and still consider a visit as a once in a lifetime experience. Mostly due to the top notch music performance which is happening daily. But to the owner consortium I would like to point out, that negative experiences for Semarang locals are on the rise. Discussing the visit to Marabunta regularly with friends. Please continue to be a unique place in Central Java. The absolute arrogant behavior from management staff tonight, will not let me come back for...

I'm super speechless as there is no word can describe how amazing my experience was. You SHOULD come and feel the vibe by yourself.

Ok, Let's start from the venue,,,,, Even though it's an old building more than 175years it's well maintained and comfortable,,,, totally different from the outside,,, each corner was beautiful,,,, magical,,,,,

The staffs,,,,, they never let you down,,,, super friendly, attentive even though it's super busy that moment,,,, they were all fantastic,,,,

How delicious the foods are???? FABULOUS,,,, imagining of it made me starving,,,, well crafted and mouth watering western fusion and Asian dishes,,,, I tried the tacos for appetizer, main course with their signature steak and completed with baylies cookies for dessert as their recommendation, all were TOP knot beyond perfect!!

Beverage,,,,, I tried Jack and Rose one of the signature cocktail, the first zip blown me away to heaven, can't stop till the last drop..

Price,,,,, oh Lord,,,, it was pretty affordable and not as expensive what people thought mostly,,,, super super super worthed every single penny,,,,,

AND, they have live music too,,,,, not only entertaining but it made my soul more than alive,,,,

Best of the best place MUST visit when you are in Central Java,,,,

Almost forgot,,,, an advance reservation is required if you want to be guaranteed get a nice table, I'm lucky they have a table for me when I just walked in (curious to see how it looks the inside)

Obviously,,,, based on my experience will be back with my family or friends next visit to Java. Thank you Marabunta for...

All i can say is WOW!!! This place encaptures the retro aspect perfectly snd the atmosphere is crazy nice, uou feel like you're being transported back in time. The band was really nice and the jazz is super catchy and you can feel the vibes. I would recommend booking a reservation before going here. The band also takes song request ocassionally.

Mac and cheese bitterballen: sooo goood, easily one if my favorite snacks they have, the truffle is not overpowering leaving just enough savory abd crunchy goodness. 10/10

Beef bacon truffle carbonara: also really good! They give you an option on how well the eggs are done (i chose half done / setengah mateng). The cream is not too much and perfect amount to not make you feel sick or enek. 9/10

Pork crackling pizza: super delicious, the portion size was also quite big good for sharing around 2-4 people. The prom was really crispy and delicious however the rest was just plain cheese on the pizza but it's a good option for a basic pizza. 8.5/10

Price: the price is decent ranging from 30K for drinks and snacks, the main courses are also mainly under 100K such as their pastas.

Parking: the parking is quite hard but there is a vallet option which i recommend more.

Service: really friendly and helpful, they were really helpful in recommending dishes based on your taste and took their time in helping you find your desired dish.

Overall, this place is perfect for a date night, birthday dinner, special ocassions or even just a normal dinner! One of the hidden gems...
