Firstly, the atmosphere and service were lovely here. The decor is lovely, and the waiters could not do enough to help, and the cat is an added bonus! The mushroom croquette was also good. Unfortunately the rest of the food was not great, in particular the paella that was more like a risotto and not traditional at all. We also noticed that the prawns had not been deveined. We explained to the waiter that the digestive tract had not been removed, making them inedible but we were told that this is how they’ve always prepared them. Prawn faeces, yum! We noticed there was a sign saying the chefs are still training and if there were any problems to ask for the manager. When we did however, the manager refused to even come out and speak to us and instead used the waiter as a middle man going back and forth between us. In summary, we were not offered an apology and after some negotiation the manager offered to remove an orange juice from the bill. It’s a shame as this place has potential to be great, but it would appear that the manager does not take pride in this business if they are unwilling to speak with customers offering feedback to help them improve.
EDIT: the managers reply shows all you need to know. ‘a la plancha’ refers to cooking the prawns on a hot grill, nothing to do with deveining at all. These prawns should still have their digestive tracts removed, and a simple google will show how this can be done without even removing the shells. I have travelled extensively in Spain and not had this issue. You will also notice that my name is Hannah, not Christian, and I didn’t once complain about them being in the shells, but thanks for disregarding my comments and instead simply replying to...
Read moreBeing on an island and attempting Authentic Spanish tapas is tough. Whilst it’s not spot on, we enjoyed our meal. The food was good, however Few things that would take it to the next level in my humble opinion:
Arroz negra- where’s the squid!? It’s 150k and 3 tiny slithers of squid. There’s an abundance of amazing seafood in Bali and we got none of it in this dish. For €9 with that little cuttlefish- in Spain the locals would riot.
The shrimp ajillo - tiny shrimp which felt pre cooked then warmed in oil… no fresh garlic even when paying extra? Can’t complain about the price but if you’re serving prawns this small at least peel them for us first, they just come out stuck in the shell and it’s super fiddly. Squid and prawns are staples in Spanish cooking and I left craving better produce - appreciate its hard on an island.
The staff were really friendly and trying super hard, whilst they lack a bit of leadership/empowerment, they served us well and were really polite.
Food was good, I’d come back but with a few tweaks, it’d be like a real...
Read moreVery small and intimate space with not much rain cover at all which made the seating choices limited during a monsoon season like now.
Had heaps of food but my favourite is the tortilla and the prawns. The tortilla is amongst the best i have tasted in any Spanish restaurant in Indonesia! We got a big hit from the white wine sauce in the clams and prawn. Didnt think it will be that prominent and strong, but boy we felt the kick.
Location - easy to find, easy to walk or to get to with bike.
Staff and service - so friendly! I love being an Indonesian and the fact that i could communicate with them freely. They are very open about the history of the restaurant and how they started working there. Makes the restaurant feels like home. There was a Russian couple with a kid who were very rude to them but they managed those people very well and upheld the politeness of the culture and did everything to make it work in the...
