I came here twice and was disappointed on both occasions.
Yesterday - I ordered the Soto. It was bland, with bits of vegetables a couple of pieces of protein (chicken, I think). It was absolutely not a patch on the Soto I had for breakfast at a roadside warung on the way to my sunrise vista. And that was less than half the price.
Today - I ordered the Gado Gado. It wasn't great either. The peanut sauce was bland and devoid of spices. The vegetable platter was OK (same vegetables used for the Soto yesterday) but everyone knows that it is the peanut sauce that makes or breaks any Gado Gado. Sadly, this one is broken. Even the Lemon Juice I ordered was severely watered down.
I have lived in Indonesia for a while and I speak Bahasa Indonesia pretty well, often being mistaken for a local. I have a penchant for local food wherever I am. And I know my food. This place, to me, is skewed far too much for tourists. No bad thing but lower your expections if your palette is local.
Great service and the place has...
Read moreKnowing that their Nasi Pecel is one of their favorite dishes – I am putting Warung Heru as one of my go-to places when I am here in Yogyakarta. The place is walkable from my hotel, the staffs were suupppperrrr friendly and the service was great and quick as my food and drink came no more than 5-10 minutes after I sat down ordering.
I ordered Nasi Pecel and Hot Lemon Tea which were a great combination for me as I just finished working. They told me that they will have Live Music at 9 PM but sadly I couldn't because I needed to finish some stuff before the weekend. The area really looks like Ubud with a small road and a few here and there restaurants and places on the side of the street. Also, cute pinky restroom with cool graffiti and stickers on the toilet. Super recommended to those who want to try Indonesian dishes with a chillin' vibe and...
Read morePrices are a bit on the high end for domestic tourists, I think their main target market is the international tourists staying around Prawirotaman area. I tried their mangut lele and it was really good. My son ordered rawon and he loved it, but I found that it's actually a bit more sour compared to the more common rawon flavor in general. My wife tried their pecel and it also tasted quite different from the norm, I think it tasted more "western". They probably adjusted their recipes to suit foreign tongues better, but I don't know. They're not bad though, place was nice, service was good and quick. However, if you're after authentic taste of Indonesian cuisine in regular prices, you might want to consider other...
