Despite the charming exterior and numerous positive reviews, our breakfast experience at Jane CafƩ in Cork was far from satisfactory. We were initially drawn to the cafƩ's intriguing breakfast offerings and after passing by several times, decided to give it a try.
Upon placing our order, we faced our first letdown: after a 30 minute wait, we were informed that our choice of poached eggs could not be prepared due to a "broken pan," which frankly seemed like a mere excuse. Reluctantly, we opted for an alternative dish, an omelette with salmon, only to be further disappointed. The omelette was nearly devoid of salmon, and inexplicably, it contained black specks that we couldn't identify, prompting us to stop eating altogether.
To add to our disappointment, the cappuccinos we ordered were horrible. They were so unpalatable that we couldn't finish them, adding to our overall frustration with the meal.
Additionally, we have serious concerns about the hygiene standards at this cafƩ. The lack of clarity about the foreign particles in our dish and the poor quality of the coffee were troubling. Moreover, after spending just half an hour inside, the lingering odors were so pervasive that we were compelled to wash our clothes immediately afterward to get rid of the smell.
Given these issues, I am puzzled by the numerous positive reviews and am left questioning the overall management and cleanliness of Jane CafƩ. It was a regrettable experience that I do not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhere to begin, myself and my girlfriend said we would give this small business a try before we left cork, with high expectations from the stellar reviews being left. I ordered the burger and my girlfriend ordered a bagel, along with a pot of tea. The server/owner (not sure) said she couldn't hear us properly, as she was listening to music with headphones in, so in fairness I wasn't surprised she couldn't hear us. She told us to sit down and to pay when the food came down.
It took about 40 minutes for the food and tea to come to the table, even though we were the only people in the cafe. In those 40 minutes, I had to watch my burger be massacred for 15 minutes in the microwave. I could barely watch.
When the food came down....my god. The burger was microwaved with the tomatoes and everything still on it, so the only thing it was missing was swimming trunks. It was sopping wet. In fairness, the bagel wasn't bad looking and my gf said it tasted quite nice. I don't know how to describe it, but the meat of the burger tasted like cigarettes. I have heard of grass fed beef but not amber leaf fed beef. The only positive really was the prices weren't too bad. That's about it.
Fortunately,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI always wanted to try this place after walking past it's colourful window on the way down Shandon street on a daily basis. Finally went in a few weeks ago and have been hooked ever since. They are SUPER vegan friendly (but cook food for all diets as well). They even have multiple vegan breakfast options including a delicious pastie that I honestly have had dreams about. The pastry and the spicy filling were equally delicious š„š„š„ I had a mixed veggies sandwich/flatbread from them another day and tried the berry cake too. Both so good! And of course their coffee. Just what my caffeine addicted soul needs. I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. Very excited to try out the Nigerian food that Chef Jane recommended for me too from their veggie and vegan menu. Also, and this cannot be emphasized enough, they are the loveliest humans. So friendly, so down to earth, really excited about food and great...
