I went with my girlfriend after an 8 day trip in Cork, looking for a restaurant that was a bit different and stubled upon freestyle with fairly decent reviews. They were an all you can eat buffet with sushi as one of their possibilities. The same store is also known as beijing taste on trip advisor, with a lower star review we found out after the fact.
to be fair, here are the pros to the restaurant: Price of 11.50 all you can eat up to 2 hours. No waiting time, and a friendly waiter who explained how it worked.
Cons: Chair seats had legs that came out around 30-45 degrees which made it easy for your foot to kick out a chair leg. Likewise, as other reviews wrote, the place was very compact, trying to put more seating that what is comfortable. The orientation is also odd, you have to walk in and walk past all the food before you get to the counter to have a seat.
Their sushi section was in the back, probably the worst selection from what I could see. There were 5 types, 4/5 were with immitation crab with sliced veggies and the other was the basic shrimp butterflied on the rice. Rice was slightly sweet and a majority of the sushi was all rice based, a typical "filler" in low quality restaurants.
on the right side of the main buffet facing the exit was 2 types of noodles and 2 types of rice, basic types nothing special, neither horrendous. Down the center isle double sided, were your meats and a few veggie dishes. Meats were all heavily battered and you could tell they were the lowest quality cut meats. I had plenty of bones in one of theirs, I think it was diced pork. Additionally, their few veggie dishes tasted like they were loaded with MSG. The far left side was all the deep fried foods. The best part was the shrimp, as it had the least amount of batter. However, that item went quick and no one came to refill that item. Their spring rolls were horrible, it had very little filling and seemed like a sort of cheese sauce? I never had that, nor would I want that again. The calamari and onion rings were deep fried, most of the pieces you could not tell if it was either or, again, more batter than actual substance.
They had some deserts, I cannot comment as I could not eat anymore. There appeared to be 4 ice cream pales in a freezer. At one point a child of a family had his head dug deep into the freezer trying to get to the icecream, as typical 5 year olds act. Neither the father of the family, nor the waiter/manager? said anything and they let the kid do as they liked with this public food. They had some fruits, my GF had some at the time. They appeared to be canned peaches, jello, and some fresh cut oranges.
The foods that were in heated trays were not all overly hot, and I would be concerned for possibly contamination from what I had saw. I hope no one would get sick from this restaurant.
The drink options that cane with the buffet was simply water. No offer any any teas or coffee with the meal. Beers and soft drinks were sold additionally on the side.
Chinese/Asian food buffets get stimgatized with a bad rap for having poor quality foods, but ive went to some great chinese buffets back in Canada and with the reviews, I thought it was worth a shot.
My GF and I will never come back to this restaurant again, we left, neither overly full yet, feeling unwell from the quality of food. I read people had some good reviews, either the management or chefs have changed, as it must have gone down hill from here. Even for the relatively low 11.50, I would rather get a salad of decent quality from even Lidl/Marks and Spencers over this place. Very...
Read moreI came here with a friend one evening after wandering around looking for a place to eat — totally unplanned, but it turned out to be a great surprise.
I ordered the braised beef noodle, and it completely hit the spot. The beef was tender and full of flavor, perfectly slow-cooked — not dry at all. The noodles had a nice chewy texture, just the way I like them, and the broth was rich and flavorful without being too salty. I honestly couldn’t stop eating.
Service was excellent, too. We showed up close to closing time, but the staff were really friendly and didn’t rush us at all. It felt welcoming and relaxed the whole time we were there.
The atmosphere was quiet and clean, with plenty of space to sit and talk. Whether you’re dining solo, with a friend, or in a small group, this...
