My friends and I are regular customers of this bar. On Thursday, June 27, I was leaving a chiropractic session and decided to join my friends for a beer (they were on their third round). Upon arrival, I was asked to leave the bar because I was wearing sweatpants. What was surprising is that there were many other people wearing sweatpants who were not told anything (6 inside and 4 outside on the terrace) and were being served (perfectly verifiable on cameras).

When we asked where this rule was written, they responded that it was a company policy... BUT it was not written anywhere (not even on a printed paper), which is not legal. It is completely unfair to apply rules in an arbitrary and selective manner. If they have a dress code, first, it should be clearly written and visible to all customers, especially if asked to see the company policy. Second, they should apply it uniformly and non-discriminatorily, as it seemed to be focused on me.

As well we asked about someone else from the group (including one of the members of the staff in the bar) that was wearing track suit and the answer was:

"In that case its fine cause she just finished her shift cause had a corporative logo"

I guess that sweat pants from the 80's style are fine to be wear and brings a good athmosphere...but a Nike/Puma from last month is not good enough...

I hope the bar reviews its policy and makes it clear and fair for all customers. In the meantime, I do not recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with fairness, respect, and equality until this "company policy" is changed or legal and...

Was here last night for my birthday, I cannot thank the bouncer and one of the bar staff members who looked after me last night!! They seen someone grab me and kiss me last night without asking and before I could even tell my friends, the bouncer and girl from the bar were straight over to make sure I was okay and brought me outside, they brought me and my friend two drinks and checked up on me for the rest of the night. Honestly, completely turned the bad situation around for me and I can’t thank them enough, sadly didn’t get their names but if they see this they will know...

EDIT: Despite my previous 2* review of Impala, I've revisited twice and it's gotten better and better.

Good beers at fair prices. Nice cocktail selection. Fun staff. Can get deafening in there at times and the smoking-area fumes can drift into the bar. So I just have to talk louder and move away from the door.

Old review;

Popped in for a look around Impala last weekend. The design and décor are tasteful and very well done. The chairs are comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxing. The staff seem friendly.

Great venue. Excellent choice of beers on draft. Definitely the best range in Cork City. Allow you try before you buy. I went with the Orange Velvet (5.5%) which tasted like a Solero Ice Cream and the partner went for Lindeman’s Kriek which is a cherry lager (4.5%) which tastes like Haribo Cherry’s. The strongest they do on draft is 8%. Definitely worth a visit for any beer lover. Rhys is a brilliant barman. Great conversationalist and craic at the bar.
