Have switched to this establishment in recent times due to bad food, service and attitude by a nearby Asian take away. I use this when I need a fast bite, rather than a restaurant experience. Staff here have always been friendly, informative and certainly know authentic Asian cuisine. They cook in front of you which is very transparent. The Asian lady is spot on and we discussed the Sambal paste which they sell in jars, and several others as well. The 2 dishes, I mainly order are Singapore Noodles (proper rice noodles) and Ramen Laksa. Both authentic and downright delicious with frwsh ingredients and good quality protein. Not overloaded with MSG, soya sauce etc. Very close to what one gets in the countries of origin. Had a chat with other patrons who were dining in and all were very happy long term customers. This is not just for students!! FYI: Sit in available in a small area without alcohol licence. I'm really looking forward to tasting many more dishes as I have no cooker during renovations!!Thanks to all at Malay Kitchen, Cork for keeping it to the Asian tradition and restoring my faith in Cork take aways of...

Small takeaway located in the city. On first inspection, place seemed pretty clean and hygienic.

Menu consists of a small handful of Asian streetfood classics like satay, laksa, pho, etc. A good selection of chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian options. Also offers a lunch special costing €5 which is cheaper than their competitors Ramen

Ordered the chicken satay and lunch special of chicken fried rice. Took a while to make as the chef is also the cashier and he was chatting away to someone. The chicken satay was €4.50 and all I got was two small skewers of chicken drenched in oily peanut sauce. The oil dripped all over the paper bag. The chicken itself just tasted like cumin, no lemongrass or ginger or other spices/herbs seemed to have been used The fried rice was also bland. The chef used what looked like shop bought ready fried onions, peanuts and garlic that came in a jar. Not sure how fresh the rest on the ingredients were.

The price for the lunch special is the only thing bringing some customers in. They seriously need another chef who knows asian food and staff to man...

Had eaten at that place with my family not too long ago. The place didn’t look too clean but I didn’t take note of that due to how hungry I was and just wanted a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately, the food I had received came out burnt. Although it didn’t look burnt, if you look upon close inspection, you can see small tiny black bits of burnt crust, and it also didn’t taste good at all. I could even taste the terrible odour from when i ate it. After letting the staff know how the food tasted burnt and maybe they may have not made it properly, they proceeded to tell me how it’s how “they make it in Malaysia,” knowing it shouldn’t be a valid excuse. I don’t think any country burn their national food to the point it literally tastes burnt. So for others reading this, I would highly recommend NOT eating here. At least until they improve on their cooking, and not burning the food they...

Tucked away in Cork City, Malay Kitchen delivers bold, authentic flavours with a warm welcome to match. The Nasi and Mee Goreng were standouts — rich in spice, cooked to order, and packed with that unmistakable wok hei. Portions were generous, and prices felt more than reasonable for the quality. Service was a real highlight: friendly, attentive, and genuinely inviting. Just a heads-up for dine-in — seating is minimal, with bar-style stools and space for only six, so it’s more of a quick bite than a long sit-down. The only slight letdown was the Mee Goreng sauce, which was a bit heavy and made the noodles softer than expected. Still, a great spot that punches well above its size, and we’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu.

Have fond memories of Malay kitchen so was delighted to be back as the opening times aren't great when we're around in Cork city. Got the pad Thai and garlic & fried rice for lunch and it was delightful. Gutted that they no longer offer their Khao Pad but delighted to still see Malay Kitchen in Cork city. Do miss their lunch specials which was rampant around Cork before, understandable given the cost of living crisis but visit was bittersweet. Dining/sit down area is smaller (bar seating) and they don't have 'free water' station anymore. Great if you're into spicy food. Staff was lovely and thorough, hard to understand sometimes but it's all good. Would visit again if we find ourselves in the city and if they're open.

I got a beef rendang and veg samosa takeaway. The flavor of the rendang was a well balanced and richly spiced dish .When you order you can say if you want it spicy. For my liking it had far too much onions in it that were chopped fairly big but this is just personal preference . Also they should add more beef because I felt like I had more potatoes and onions than beef. The samosa’s are small bite size ones that were crispy and had a flavorful veg filling. Will go again to try some of their other dishes. Overall flavor is definitely there!
