It was my first time dining here after many visits to Westport. I want to highlight immediately that the food was very, very good. And that the service staff were also quite good (except for those looking after the drinks).

I do want to highlight two things to keep in mind when it comes to anyone visiting here in the future.

First, we ate in the loft, where there is room for 4 tables. It's very cosy, but if the place is full, and one or two of the tables are filled with boisterous individuals, it's going to be loud in there. Near the end of our meal two of the large tables left and the place was much quieter then.

The second issue relates to a drink order. I ordered a Heineken zero, which arrived as a pint. After one or two sips of the drink it became clear that it was not of the best quality. I asked our server about replacing it with a bottle of the same non-alcoholic beer. They went to the bar and asked about changing it. They returned to tell me that they wouldn't replace it and that if I wanted to replace it with a new drink (a bottle), I would have to pay for that as well. In no way do I blame the server for not replacing the drink, this was not their decision. However, it is a ridiculous policy, in particular as it related to a non-alcoholic beverage. I was by no means seeking to get extra drinks for free. I merely wanted to replace the drink that had been served as it was, in my opinion, of poor quality and did not meet the expectations of the product. I live in the country where Heineken originates, and they would have been very disappointed with how their product had been served during this visit.

I won't be returning to this restaurant in the future, and I don't think it'll affect business too much (nor will the establishment in question care, I think).

I do want to repeat that the food was very good and that our server was excellent...

What a spot! Visited with my brother and his wife mid September. We booked in for dinner in the upstairs area. When we arrived the place was all a buzz. There was a live band playing. We went upstairs for our food. We were seated in booth style seating. But instead of being squashed in on banquette seating, we were sat on regular comfortable chairs at a nice wide table and there was plenty of room for everyone. The food was amazing. Everything was so delicious and presented beautifully. We shared three starters between us, then had our own mains. For starters we had a terrine(can't remember what kind, but was excellent), scallops on black pudding(perfectly cooked scallops, delicious) and prawns in a mouth watering chilli sauce(this was the star of the show). We asked for a spoon to finish the chilli sauce. Then for mains I had a huge pot of muscles and the others both had fish pie. My muscles where very plentiful and delicious. The others throughly enjoy their pies. Oh we also had a side of parmesan fries, yum yum. The staff were very attentive and efficient. Big shout out to Elisha amazing. We were too full for sweet so headed down stairs for drinks and to listen to the music....

If Carlsberg Did Bars
đŸ» From the moment we walked into JJ O’Malley’s, we were wrapped in the warmest of welcomes — all thanks to the incredible Annie behind the bar. Friendly, funny, and absolutely unforgettable, Annie is a true gem. Her way of connecting with every customer, sharing brilliant local stories, and making you feel instantly at home is a gift — one that can’t be taught. Later that evening, our party returned for dinner upstairs, and once again, Annie went above and beyond, personally escorting us to the restaurant. There, we met the equally fantastic Claire and her team. The service was second to none — friendly, professional, and full of genuine Irish hospitality. The food was excellent, the Guinness was top-notch, and the entire experience was flawless from start to finish. JJ O’Malley’s isn’t just a bar — it’s an experience. The next time we’re in Westport, it’ll be our first stop, no question. Annie, never change — you deserve a payrise for the magic you bring to the place! CĂ©ad mĂle fĂĄilte at its very best. Thank you for looking after us so well — we’ll be back! — Orla,...

J.J. O'Malley's in Westport is a fantastic spot! On the ground floor, there's a lively bar where they have live music almost every day, creating a great atmosphere. Upstairs, the restaurant serves absolutely stunning food. The starters were wonderful, and I was honestly amazed by the curry — and that's coming from someone who usually doesn’t like curry! It was so flavorful that I even enjoyed the dish my daughter ordered. The crab pasta was good too, though I felt it could use a bit more seasoning. Big compliments to the chef — you can really tell they know what they're doing in the kitchen. The only downside was that we were initially charged for an extra starter we didn’t order. Thankfully, after bringing it to the staff’s attention, the bill was corrected promptly. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially during the tourist season, as the place gets quite busy!

Oh my, oh my... Amazing! Who knew that steak stir fry with noodles could be so good in Ireland! Steak so tender you could cut with just the slightest push if a fork, noodles tucked in with vegetables in a succulent sauce, and top it off with a proper pint... Yes! Not to mention the other meals on the table - A bacon and cheese burger showcasing a fantastic culmination of meat and child's meal that was scarfed down in just moments. Definitely will be eating here again even if we have to back track a little, it's that good!
