Here we are, visiting Dublin's Irish Whiskey Museum, not for the tour but just to check out the place and drink some sipping whiskey and couldn't help but wonder .... is there any place in Dublin that offers a vegan version of an Irish Whisky 🤔? I decided to pose the question to the local community in the Dublin Vegans Facebook group. I posted the question a few days back and there were no replies so I figured maybe that wasn't an option.
Wednesday evening, we decided to start our next day (Thursday), by taking the Dublin Bay Cruises from Dublin into the port town just south of Dublin, Dún Laoghaire (which I can all but guarantee that I butcher every time I try to say the name lol!). It's an incredibly beautiful one hour ferry ride and the port city is just so lovely to walk around and explore.
As luck would have it, while we were hanging out in Dún Laoghaire, someone ended up replying to my post and referred us to a restaurant, Walters Dun Laoghaire which was ironically enough .. in the same town we happened to be visiting and within a 2 minute walk of where we were at the time of receiving the reply lol (truly have to love the irony of the Universe at time!). Interestingly, on Wednesday evening I did research vegan options for Thursday and while I found quite a few places with vegan options, I didn't happen across Walters. So, were it not for that group member replying to my post, I'd never have known and not had the opportunity to share with everyone reading so, thank you "group member" 🙂
Do I really need to even tell you how good the Irish Whiskey was? It's ok, I don't mind, so .. I'll tell you anyhow 🙂 .. it was "AJ Sytles" phenomenal (sorry, that's a nerd WWE wrestling reference which you can be forgive if you're not familiar with lol). It turns out the bartender there is a vegan, which translated into him providing vegan options of otherwise non vegan drinks, YAY! They have some nice vegan menu options as well. We decided Wild Mushroom Arancini and the dish was every bit as good as it looks in the picture. As soon as you take one bite, you get a heavenly earthy smell and taste of the mushrooms, the sauce was the perfect accompaniment and, the dish as a whole was aesthetically gorgeous!
If you haven't yet, take the cruise, or drive or take transit (there are buses that run out that way and also a local DART train line), take in the scenery of the local area and feast on amazing vegan food and imbibe to delightfully amazing and gratifying...

Yes, alas, this is a complaint.
I haver no appetite for providing negative remarks on toxic social media, hence the emailer.
My wife and I drop into Walters now and again for lunch. The food has, mostly, been more than acceptable. At times, really excellent.
In the past we deserted Walters for a while as a change of ownership produced atrocious food. I realise a lot depends on the skills and motivation of kitchen staff.
However last Saturday, at around 2.30, , we dropped in and ordered two simple salads.
The space was virtually empty, so no pressure on kitchen staff.
We really should have remembered our previous visit to Walters, some weeks ago, again, a noticeable absence of paying customers.
Menu presented. Waited for 35 minutes. Alas no member of staff approached.
Got up and left.
Be that as it may. Our two salads, last Saturday. Arrived fairly quickly. But, oh dear me !!!!!!!
An exceptionally, pathetically small, actually tiny, salad. Not worth 5 euros, less alone 15. Mostly limp lettuce leaves, no onion, tomato, etc., bread croutons for filler, a rather odd dressing, somewhat unpleasant, an over abundance of disgusting sugar-coated walnuts.
In a salad ? Please !!!! No goats' cheese. The goat must have been on a work- to- rule.
Yes, we should have sent the salads back at the time. But, being in a hurry, just shrugged, and ate.
BAD DECISION. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Within 15 minutes of paying the bill my wife and I both had to rush into the shopping centre, to, ahem, forgive me, “ void our bowels “.
It took 6 hours for the effects of that nasty “ fresh salad “ to leave our systems. Would not wish it on my worst enemy!
So, get a grip. Do you want a court appearance for food poisoning? No. Thought not!
Yours, etc …......
