We happened upon Cat & Cage as it was located within a minutes walk from our hotel, the Skylon Hotel in the Drumcondra area of Dublin. We were initially drawn in by their name (marketing works on us, lol) and then "sold" with their amazing sounding vegan options. Until researching to write this post, we hadn't realized we were walking back into four centuries of history dating back to 1690, wow, who knew!!

It was dinner on Thursday night and the place was hopping (if the pub were named "The Bunny & the Cage" that would make a funny pun but ahhhh, I digress...).

While everything was excellent, the best item of the evening was the Beer Battered Onion Rings with Chipotle Mayo. For a fried food, these tasted incredibly light and the onions tasted very fresh! The Funghi Pizza offered a hearty and varied mouthfeel with each bite, with lots of flavors and textures between the wild mushroom mix, the spinach, pistachio crumbles, and mozzarella cheese! We both agreed that between the crust and the cheese, the pizza could have benefited from an additional couple of minutes of oven time but that didn't deter from this being an amazing option! The burger was equally satisfying with a generous portion of delicious house cut chips (fries, but I know you know that lol).

We were hungry and really jonesing to try all of the options that we did .. but honestly, either the pizza or burger option would likely be enough for two reasonable .. not so gluttonous people! If you live in Dublin and haven't been or you're visiting, either way .. Cat & Cage needs to be on your short list of...

Had a really poor experience here on Thursday night. It was busy but upstairs was closed, the venue is small and there were 6/7 staff on, including the owner/general manager and a superviser. We sat at the side bar and asked for menus. After 15 minutes we had to go up to ask to order and they had forgotten about us. It just got worse from there. It took us over an hour to get our food and again I had to go up to the bar to even let them know we were still waiting- the only response from the owner was ā€œit’s busyā€..???? So unprofessional and rude. No apologies, no explanations just food over an hour after we ordered it. I was so unimpressed. I have worked in hospitality for over 8 years and I know poor service when I see it. The food was average, enjoyable but nothing to write home about. Really want to like this place cause it’s local to me but I have to say I’ll be hard pressed to go back for a...

Cracking! Cracking Food Cracking Service Cracking Evening I have grown up in Drumcondra and seen the Cat change many times over the years, but one thing that's consistent is the friendly atmosphere. Recently I had a family party in here and I couldn't thank the staff more. Bernie was the lady I was dealing with and it's mind numbing how great she is at her job, from booking, to keeping in touch, to getting the food out on the night, and ensuring we were having a great time. Add in the Karaoke room (that Bernie suggested we book), and the night was just perfect. The food was delicious too, and we had some vegetarian folk in the guest list who really enjoyed the food options laid out for them too, and of course not to forget the lovely flow of all the pints. Genuinely couldn't fault the Cat, the staff, the food, anything at all, a perfect...

I have been in Cat & Cage on a Friday night to take my cousin from Brazil to try the Irish way to enjoy food and it was the best choice. As a starter, we had a portion of Thay-fish-cake which comes with two generous crispy fried bunnies of the cake. For the main course, we both ordered the special of the day, Braised Beef, it was just delicious! The meat was super tasty, soft and very well cooked as well the vegetables that accompanied, but 'al dente'. Both came over a layer of consistent mashed potato and covered by a very well seasoned sauce (the combination was perfect). We both got super satisfied with the quantity of food we had which worth the price. Besides, all members of the staff were attentive and kind. Great experience. Can't wait to come back.

Highly recommend the battered fish and chips. A decent portion of battered fish serves with homemade chips, with tartar sauce and a container of garden peas and fresh basil. I have never tasted garden peas with basil but it was a lovely combination. Excellent customer service from the male blonde haired staff member on duty. I would suggest less sea salt sprinkled over the food. I think salt is optional. The service was excellent and the fish cost €19.00. I thought it was great value for money. We called in before the dundalk and shels game. So the pub was packed downstairs. We luckily got a table in the upstairs cocktail and bottle bar. A good selection of food on offer. The burgers and pizzas looked amazing. I would highly recommend this pub for food.
