It unfortunately did not live up to the hype.

We booked a table for six people and apparently that meant that we were limited only to the chef's menu. The staff said a warning about this is on their website, but I still cannot find it.

The atmosphere is quite lovely and the wines were delicious, but the food was lacking. The burrata with the tomatoes was yummy and the crab tostadas surprisingly fresh. The Pumpkin Cappellacci was delicous, but the lamb ragu was very forgettable. The ribeye was cooked well, but lacked seasoning and felt like a very cheap cut with little flavour. My friends' sole was extremely salty. The sides were also a big disappointment, with the broccoletto being so tough that I needed my steak knife to cut through it and the salad fell flat. The potatoes were okay. The tiramisu I got at the end was really good.

I do have to mention that the chef's menu said that each pair could pick two sides, but when we were trying to order, we were told not to and that they would bring everything. Apparently that meant bringing all three sides twice, which was very much not what we wanted, so I have no idea why they would just assume that this was okay without asking or explaining. They did fix this when we complained, but we did get some weird looks from the staff.

Overall, I found the experience to be lacking, especially for the price point. Please be aware that for large groups, you can only get the chef's menu and be very specific about ordering the sides you want. Not sure if I will be returning, but if I do, it will be in a much smaller party, so I can actually order the things I...

TL/DR: Bad service, mediocre food for an expensive price, don't take chef menu, it's literally the same price as ordering a la carte.

Had a bad experience tonight. It started bad, and just got worse. We got there on time, and no tables were ready the restaurant was still full with guests from the previous service. We were told to sit at bar tables at the corner of the restaurant next to the bathroom, like we were in some punishment.... It was more than 10 minutes until we got our table, bad start as I mentioned. After that, we got the option to choose from a chef menu or an a la carte menu. Surprisingly, the prices seemed the same, so taking the exact same courses from the chef menu would have been same price as ordering a la carte..... We said let's go with chef menu as it included desserts (or so we thought). First, came the burrata - I don't know how you can call yourself an Italian restaurant, and serve burrata on top of hummus, I mean, who does that, bad combo which shouldn't happen no matter what. The pastas were good, but I've had better. Then, the most disappointing part of the night was the steak, we did order MW, but though there were some red-ish parts, it was mostly burnt, and uneatable ( I had 2 pieces and couldn't eat anymore.). Then, to make matters worse, we ordered 2 desserts, waiters said it fine and we got them. Only when we got the bill, we realised there was another charge for a dessert, apparently with the chef menu you only get one dessert (they did remove the charge after we complained it wasn't clear). Paying almost €90, this was the most disappointing meal I've...

We were very excited to have the last meal of our trip here. The reviews were so good. Here is our experience...

Atmosphere... overall, great! Simple, black and white. This carried through to servers attire. The only negative was the closeness of the tables. You had to move the tables to allow people to get in and out from the booth side. You could easily hear three conversations at once (yours, the party to the left, the party to the right).

Service... we had a late 915 pm reservation. And it was almost 1130 before we left. After placing our order it took almost 30 minutes to receive the first course and it was a cold course. And they never asked how the meal was.

Food... not as expected. The first cold course was good, except the bread was also served refrigerator cold. The two pasta courses were very small, only one ravioli per person. The ravioli was too thick. The pumpkin filling was almost completely lost. The ragu course was better, but not by much from a serving size stand point. The flavor of the ragu was excellent. The main was ribeye served with salad and potatoes. This was the best course overall. Good char on the steak and it was flavorful and cooked well. Unfortunately, the steak we received had several strings running throughout, and this made it less enjoyable. The dessert course was a miss. The ice cream of the affogato was overpowered by the espresso. We asked a neighbor about their dessert, cheesecake, before ordering ours. Their reply, "skip it and stick...

The food was absolutely delicious, we particularly loved the focaccia, the bluefin tuna, and the cacio e pepe. The atmosphere is nice but for this price point real napkins should be standard, also it was quite loud. Will definitely come back one day.

I was so impressed with the service at Host. My partner and I were on the tram to Dundrum and decided to get off at Ranelagh for dinner. We did a little research and read online that it's one of the trendier neighbourhoods near Dublin. Host was the first restaurant we came to from the LUAS stop. We went inside and were politely told by the server (Sean) that there were no tables available. He gave us some recommendations down the street. We started walking away, and about 30 seconds later Sean comes running up to us to say that a table just opened up. That has literally never happened to me before; a server chasing you down to offer you a table. The wine and food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was very cosy and super "Instagramable." I would absolutely recommend Host to anyone looking for an incredible dining experience just outside of Dublin city. Thanks again, Sean, and the rest of the team at Host. Hope to see you again.
