I went to matsukawa with my boyfriend on 11/7/2024. It was the best omakase I have ever tried in Europe. Overall experience was very good. The waiters were very friendly. The chef and the waiters explained the dishes served. The waitress explained the sign behind the menu was the symbol of the owner’s family and the reason matsukawa is the restaurant’s name. The environment was very nice. They only serve maximum of 8 customers at a time. I think this is very thoughtful, so they can concentrate on different customers needs with 3 staffs in total, including the chef. The restroom was decorated so beautiful. I appreciate the way they have a mini make up table, with mouthwash, cotton buds, cosmetic pads on it. This was also very considerate. I felt very surprised with the starter, warm dish and the dessert. Especially the marinated scallions, the sourness and freshness were amazing. I don’t think I can ever get this taste from other places. The steamed egg custard, just so perfect! The perfect texture of a steamed egg, it was very very soft and smooth that you don’t need to chew it! The nigiri was great. I could not eat prawns, the waiter and the chef confirmed again with me despite I put it on the dietary requirement during booking. I appreciated the hospitality. After confirmation, they suggested to change alternative nigiri for me. So instead of prawn nigiri, I got a flamed salmon nigiri! (Steal my boyfriend’s prawn nigiri for photo lol) Although I think flamed salmon nigiri was a stronger flavour, prefer to have it served after scallops nigiri. My personal favourite nigiri were pickled mackerel, cured turbot, red mullet and scallops. The sauce put on nigiri before serving enhanced the flavour. A little bit disappointed nigiri was blue fin tuna. It was cut too thinly, would be better tasted if the was out of the freezer (or fridge) earlier and the texture would be better if it was cut thinker. The egg omelette was out of my expectation. I was expecting to have a layered tamagoyaki. This was more like a firmed version of japanese cheesecake. The miso soup was a classic japanese one. Good for the ending of nigiri and an introduction of a dessert. The red bean yokan was not too sweet, which I loved it so much! The yokan I have tried before made me feel like a ton of sugar was put inside. But this one, FABULOUS!!! The houji tea was a perfect match with the yokan. This whole omakase was a harmony of sushi! Will definitely...

My wife and I recently went to Matsukawa Dublin as part of our preparations for an upcoming trip to Japan, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. They were incredibly courteous, friendly, and professional, taking time to explain not only the details of each dish but also sharing wonderful insights and recommendations about places to visit in Japan. Their passion and hospitality truly added to the authenticity of the experience.

The restaurant itself offers an intimate counter setting, creating a calm and focused atmosphere that allows you to fully appreciate the artistry of each course. We enjoyed a beautifully curated 18-course omakase menu that showcased the finest ingredients and meticulous craftsmanship. Every dish was a work of art, perfectly balanced and full of subtle flavours.

The Nigiri, in particular, stood out as the best I have ever eaten. Each piece melted in the mouth, with rice seasoned and textured to perfection, and fish that was of the highest quality and freshness. The sequence of dishes was thoughtfully paced, moving seamlessly from delicate starters to rich, flavorful highlights, and finishing with an elegant dessert that completed the experience beautifully. Matsukawa Dublin is much more than just a meal, it’s an experience that combines culinary excellence with cultural connection. It felt like a small journey to Japan without leaving Dublin. Let me tell you about this Japanese-style restaurant that's been the talk of the town. So, you've heard about the long queues and the wait for reservations, right? Well, let me tell you, it's all worth it. Picture this: as soon as you step inside, you're whisked away to Japan itself. The staff, dressed in traditional attire, greet you with a warmth that's so authentically Japanese, it's like you've stepped into an izakaya straight out of Tokyo. And oh, the chef! They're a master of their craft, putting on a show as they prepare sushi right before your eyes. It's like being transported back to those bustling sushi bars in Japan. The attention to detail is impeccable, from the décor to the menu. Speaking of the menu, it changes every month! Can you believe it? The chef personally selects the freshest fish and creates dishes that take your taste buds on a journey you won't forget. Sure, it's not the cheapest place in town, but trust me, it's worth every penny. And it's not just about the food; it's the whole experience. They've got an impressive selection of sake and other drinks that pair perfectly with the meal, bringing back memories of my time in Japan. In short, don't let the hype scare you off. This place lives up to every bit of it. It's not just a meal; it's a cultural immersion that stays with you long after you've...

Second time visiting. First time with owner chef and second time with different chef. So excited to be back and lived up to the expectations. Highlights of sushi was turbot for me. My husband loved the tuna belly the most and we could order the extra pieces of sushi more. Unfortunately, langoustine was only per head and we couldn’t get more as extra. Bar sitting isn’t the most comfortable set up but it was enjoyable to watch as if theatrical show. Also, if there are big group of people sitting beside you, it’s a bit distracting and get loud in the restaurant. Recommend to do: don’t be afraid to get extra sushi piece that you liked the most. Try some warm sake drinks or cold. Eat sushi with your hand and don’t waste too much time to take a picture. Immerse being in one and only Japanese omakase restaurant 😁

Our recent Omakase experience in Matsukawa was nothing short of phenomenal. We received such a warm greeting, and were offered drinks - we couldn’t decide which Sake to pick as they had such a big selection, but the staff was great at giving recommendations, and gave us some tasters to make a good choice! Every single dish was so well thought out, and so so tasty! The variation of every course brings you on a little journey, showcasing the freshest ingredients and the chef's incredible talent. My favorites were definitely the sea bream, the prawn and the silkiest eggs! We had such an amazing experience, loved the intimate setting, chatting with the chef and staff about Japan and sushi. Overall, this experience was truly unforgettable, and we can’t wait to be back.
