I went to matsukawa with my boyfriend on 11/7/2024. It was the best omakase I have ever tried in Europe. Overall experience was very good. The waiters were very friendly. The chef and the waiters explained the dishes served. The waitress explained the sign behind the menu was the symbol of the owner’s family and the reason matsukawa is the restaurant’s name. The environment was very nice. They only serve maximum of 8 customers at a time. I think this is very thoughtful, so they can concentrate on different customers needs with 3 staffs in total, including the chef. The restroom was decorated so beautiful. I appreciate the way they have a mini make up table, with mouthwash, cotton buds, cosmetic pads on it. This was also very considerate. I felt very surprised with the starter, warm dish and the dessert. Especially the marinated scallions, the sourness and freshness were amazing. I don’t think I can ever get this taste from other places. The steamed egg custard, just so perfect! The perfect texture of a steamed egg, it was very very soft and smooth that you don’t need to chew it! The nigiri was great. I could not eat prawns, the waiter and the chef confirmed again with me despite I put it on the dietary requirement during booking. I appreciated the hospitality. After confirmation, they suggested to change alternative nigiri for me. So instead of prawn nigiri, I got a flamed salmon nigiri! (Steal my boyfriend’s prawn nigiri for photo lol) Although I think flamed salmon nigiri was a stronger flavour, prefer to have it served after scallops nigiri. My personal favourite nigiri were pickled mackerel, cured turbot, red mullet and scallops. The sauce put on nigiri before serving enhanced the flavour. A little bit disappointed nigiri was blue fin tuna. It was cut too thinly, would be better tasted if the was out of the freezer (or fridge) earlier and the texture would be better if it was cut thinker. The egg omelette was out of my expectation. I was expecting to have a layered tamagoyaki. This was more like a firmed version of japanese cheesecake. The miso soup was a classic japanese one. Good for the ending of nigiri and an introduction of a dessert. The red bean yokan was not too sweet, which I loved it so much! The yokan I have tried before made me feel like a ton of sugar was put inside. But this one, FABULOUS!!! The houji tea was a perfect match with the yokan. This whole omakase was a harmony of sushi! Will definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I recently went to Matsukawa Dublin as part of our preparations for an upcoming trip to Japan, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. They were incredibly courteous, friendly, and professional, taking time to explain not only the details of each dish but also sharing wonderful insights and recommendations about places to visit in Japan. Their passion and hospitality truly added to the authenticity of the experience.
The restaurant itself offers an intimate counter setting, creating a calm and focused atmosphere that allows you to fully appreciate the artistry of each course. We enjoyed a beautifully curated 18-course omakase menu that showcased the finest ingredients and meticulous craftsmanship. Every dish was a work of art, perfectly balanced and full of subtle flavours.
The Nigiri, in particular, stood out as the best I have ever eaten. Each piece melted in the mouth, with rice seasoned and textured to perfection, and fish that was of the highest quality and freshness. The sequence of dishes was thoughtfully paced, moving seamlessly from delicate starters to rich, flavorful highlights, and finishing with an elegant dessert that completed the experience beautifully. Matsukawa Dublin is much more than just a meal, it’s an experience that combines culinary excellence with cultural connection. It felt like a small journey to Japan without leaving Dublin. We left feeling inspired, grateful, and even more excited for our...
