Orchid Restaurant — Restaurant in Dublin

I booked this Restaurant by phone for Saturday night. On booking I was asked for my Credit Card details as if I did not show I would be charged a €10 no show charge. I gave my card details but when asked for my security number on the back I said I was not very happy giving this as I had cancelled my card the previous week due to funds been taken from my account. The card I was now using was my wife’s as it takes five to seven working days before you receive a new one. He said that was okay. We arrived for our table on Saturday at 8 to be told we had no table booked. A lady was called which I presume was the manager she looked up a list on a clipboard and told me that the security number for the card did not work. I said I never gave a security number and explained my conversation on the phone previously. I was then told that she was standing beside the guy that had taken my call previously and that I was told I could call as a walk in but would not be guaranteed a table which was totally untrue. I was told there was no table for me now. I said they had my phone number and the least they could have done was phone. I found the whole experience embarrassing and will never be going back to this Restaurant again having been there on numerous occasions. My partner and I have been enjoying takeaways from Orchid for the past five years, and we can confidently say that the quality is consistently outstanding. Every meal has been nothing short of exceptional, with top-tier ingredients, expertly cooked dishes, and impeccable flavors.

Our go-to order includes duck with pancakes, prawn crackers, crispy garlic, chili, and salt chicken, and chicken fried rice—each element is consistently perfect. The duck is tender and flavorful, the crispy chicken is expertly seasoned with just the right balance of spice, and the fried rice is always fresh and delicious. The quality of the meat and seafood is noticeably high, which truly sets Orchid apart.

A special mention must go to the packaging—it’s top-quality, keeping the food hot and fresh, ensuring that the experience is just as enjoyable at home as it would be in the restaurant.

Lately, we’ve been collecting our orders directly from the restaurant, and it has been a pleasure to see the operation up close. The staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and professional, and the restaurant itself is spotless, clearly maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and quality.

Having previously (about a year ago) brilliant I was was looking forward to bring my Chinese partner for a meal, but what a let down! On a Sunday at 20:00 the restaurant was and stayed empty, which tells its own story. Food was below average in quality (duck over cooked and totally dried out, Singapore fried noodles would at best make it as poorly fried noodles) and quantity and well abouve in price. Living in the West of Ireland I expect to pay more in Dublin, but not three times as much (after taking food quantity in to considerration). The waiting staff was friendly, but (I presume the Hong Kong owner) sitting at the entrace counter, with the back to us, eating and surfing the net and totally ignoring us as customers, made us feel unwellcome.
