Restaurant had good reviews so we had high expectations. Sadly they were not met. To start with our table was right by the swinging kitchen door - constantly in use (naturally) but added a level of chaos to our experience. There just shouldn’t be a table that close to the kitchen- it’s impractical and unpleasant. The restaurant is big enough for you forego this table. The starters - lacked any proper taste. Considering we had garlic and chilli prawns, they were neither garlicky or spicy- the prawns were however good quality. Crab claws in a cream sauce were basic. Our main dishes included the cod special and the apparently world famous fish and chips. Cod was overcooked, served with basic sad looking vegetables and an even more basic mash and to top things off, priced at an eye watering €35. There was nothing world famous about the fish and chips- soggy batter considering it had come from fryer to table. Chips were not crispy nor fluffy - how can they get it so wrong in the land of the potato?? Tartar sauce, nothing to write home about. Service throughout was frantic and inconsistent- apparently the level of busy we experienced was very normal so why did it feel like everyone was running around like a headless chicken? We also didn’t get served any complimentary bread - probably because we were at an awkwardly positioned table. Overall, not a great experience. Won’t be back, won’t be...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. We were seated at 6:55pm and placed our order by 7:10pm — three people, six oysters (two each) followed by mains. After finishing our oysters, we sat for 35 minutes with empty shells in front of us while other tables who arrived later were being served.
When we asked the waitress, she explained that because we ordered oysters, our mains would only be started after other tables who ordered just mains — something I’ve never heard of before. Eventually she cleared the oyster plates, but still nothing came. After chasing again, she left for a while and returned saying they were “just starting” our mains, at which point we decided to cancel.
A manager then appeared and told us our mains had only been entered 11 minutes earlier and would take time because everything is cooked fresh. Of course we expect food to be fresh, but that didn’t explain why our mains weren’t started for over half an hour after finishing oysters. The conflicting explanations, lack of apology, and indifference to the fact we had already been waiting 55 minutes with only two oysters each made for a very...
Read moreDuring our recent trip, we were on the hunt for the best seafood in town, and we were pointed towards this wonderful establishment. Upon arrival, we were not disappointed!
The oysters were undoubtedly the highlight of our visit. They were the freshest we had encountered throughout our entire trip, each one a delightful burst of oceanic flavor. If you are an oyster enthusiast, this place is a must-visit. Apart from the oysters, we indulged in the seafood platter and the chowder, both of which were simply delicious. The platter was a generous assortment of seafood delights, each element cooked to perfection. The service was another standout aspect of our experience. Both the waitress and the waiter were incredibly attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. Their friendly demeanor added to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. In conclusion, this restaurant is a top recommendation for anyone seeking high-quality seafood. The combination of fresh ingredients, excellent dishes, and attentive service makes it a must-visit spot. We wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow...
