20May2024 - Dinner in Killarney, Ireland.
Our group of 22 had dinner at the Cronin’s Restaurant.
The cosy restaurant was buzzling with customers at 7:00pm, with several pax queuing outside for seats. Our reservations allowed us to dine till 8:00pm, as there was back to back reservations.
Our bread rye with butter were already on the tables and our first course of Seafood Chowder was served promptly. It was deliciously cooked with mixture of salmon chips and clams. Rarely would I finish entire bowl of starter soup, and this meal was exceptional. I cleaned up the entire bowl with the rye bread.
The team of servers, which included the proprietor, Mr. Pat Cronin, was moving quickly to serve the meals and attended to additional requests from diners. Very politely.
The main course of Lamb Stew with potatoes and carrots was really good. In addition, a side of mashed potatoes were placed on each table, which we could not finish - and that tasted good too.
Our dessert was a light cheese cake with a scoop of ice cream. Before I started the meal, I told myself to reduce my intake that day, so I would not consume dessert; but the cheese cake was light and not so sweet. I had to finish half of it!
The entire meal was such wonderful experience. I complimented the server who attended to us. Had a short chat with the proprietor and complimented him too for the delicious meal. Found out that he ran the restaurant with his son.
Marvelous meal after a long journey...
Read moreWent to Cronins last night with my boyfriend for our last night in Kerry. We hadn't booked, simply walked around till we found something that we liked. Cronins was very busy but as we stood outside two different members of staff were with us within minutes. We were asked to wait a few minutes until a table became available. I hardly had time to get my phone from my bag but we were being seated at a lovely table outside. We ordered our drinks, I was feeling fancy so got a cosmo. It took longer than I would have expected to arrive but it was worth the wait as it was fabulous! I ordered the duck and my boyfriend got a burger. Well let me tell you it was amazing!! Succulent, juicy and soo tasty. I was given a side plate of veg and the mash that came along with it was beautiful! Buttery and creamy it's was some of the nicest mash I'd had in a long time. My boyfriend loved his burger and chips. We were full but of course not too full for dessert. I had the chocolate Brownie and himself got the mint aero cheesecake. Both were out of this world delicious!! The staff were do friendly and good craic, it was a lovely meal and I'm just sorry I don't live in Kerry to have more!!...
Read moreWe did our research and decided to come here after seeing the good reviews but we left very disappointed. We came hungry and wanted to try a few of their menu items so we decided to order a main for a starter so we could try the items we were most interested in. We appreciate that might be unorthodox (although isn't this really irrelevant as you should be able to eat what you want?), but we were stunned by the blatantly smug scorn that was on our server's face for not following 'normal' etiquette. We had further encounters with our first waitress that left a poor taste in our mouths but thankfully her shift ended half way through our meal and the second waitress was better (though still not warm). We saw some of the family owners host other tables in a way that seemed more hospitable, so we don't want to be too harsh, but we did not have a good experience with our server. But we went there for the food primarily so we were also disappointed to find that it wasn't that great. The portions were smaller, everything we ordered was overcooked, mushy, and lacked seasoning. We had better meals in Killarney so we repeated some of those the following nights and wouldn't...
