Traveller’s Summary: If you find yourself wandering Killarney with a growling stomach and a thirst for adventure (or whiskey), stumble into The Porterhouse and prepare to be fed like a Celtic king. Warning: the lamb is so tender it might ruin all future lamb for you, the “Stag’s Night” drink might inspire questionable decisions, and their whiskey rail is a deliciously dangerous slide into Irish spirit heaven.
The Porterhouse Restaurant near Scotts Hotel is a total gem. The lamb was an absolute standout—succulent, flavour-packed, and beautifully presented. It’s the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate life.
But let’s talk drinks: the “Stag’s Night” cocktail is cheeky, strong, and memorable (just like a good Irish story), and the whiskey rail lets you sample a fine lineup of Irish pride in liquid form. It’s like a guided tour of Ireland... for your tastebuds.
The vibe? Cozy and welcoming, with staff who treat you like a long-lost cousin. Whether you’re in for a casual meal or lining your stomach before an evening of revelry, this place delivers. Go for the lamb, stay for the spirits, leave with a smile (and maybe a...
Read moreI'll start by saying I don't ever order steak because I'm always disappointed in what I get, not to toot my own horn, but, what I make at home always tastes better. Porterhouse is the exception. The first night I ordered the hot stone seared steak (they bring it out to the table with the stone and you cook it yourself, however, they do pre-sear, major) with a peppercorn sauce, baked potato and green beans. I prefer rare so I only cooked about 3 minutes per side. Now, I've been told the chef is also a professional butcher which would explain the level of perfection I observed on this cut of meat. It was perfectly trimmed, juicy and exceptionally flavourful- 5/5 stars. But then it gets better, the next night, having loved the experience so much, I returned to try the aged and salted filet. Wow... just..WOW! Served with blackened portobello mushrooms, I chose fries and more of the delicious peppercorn sauce, the cut was perfection. The mushrooms were salted in a manner that harmonized with the meat in an absolute symphony of flavors. Unbelievable. Top notch service and I will refer every person coming...
Read moreThe best place that I ate in Ireland (so far). First of all, you may want to book a reservation, I didn't and had to wait 15 minutes in the bar I order to sit. In the bar the bartender was helpful and suggested to me a couple of local beers to match with my food (also I couldn't help noticing the adroit way he poured the drinks). The rest of the stuff wasn't as nice as he was. The place looks really awesome, similar to an American burger house style/booth full with interesting frames and decoratives, I could keep my eyes from the walls. The food came early and it was really really good. (there is a whole vegan section on the menu with a couple of options from starters to burgers and main courses). I ordered the porterhouse plant based burger with black beans and the soup of the day (which was cauliflower soup) both were super tasty and the portions were more than satisfactioning (although the country potatoes sides to the burger was extra spicy, not the best to me). Prices were fine and I really liked the experience. I strongly...
