Went for lunch on July 14th.
We sat right as the service began at 12:30. We were told the bread and appetizers they are most famous for won’t be ready for at least another 15-20 minutes. Why seat people if you’re not ready??
The mezzes were mediocre. They haven’t evolved since 2005 while everyone else in Tel Aviv does the same and even better.
Then different waiters would attend to us but no one was actually attentive when we needed anything. Things came out totally unsynchronized like a coffee would arrive 15 minutes before the dessert.
Finally got a waiter to get us a check. He asks “how much tip should I add?” Which in itself is very presumptuous. I told him the total in shekels I wished to charge, to which he replies “you’re aware that’s less than 10%, right?”
Instead of inquiring about our experience or our reason for this tip he tries to go on the offensive using guilt.
I said I was 100% aware that it was below 10% and that on second thought id rather leave nothing at all. He said he was sorry and that they were busy and understaffed. We ended up reaching a cold agreement and just leaving that original tip.
But the point is this: if you make a bunch of service errors a verbal apology doesn’t cut it. You have to correct your mistakes with actual gestures. Show that you mean it by sending out wine or desert or coffee or if it’s really disastrous comp the whole meal and hope the...
Read moreTonight we dined at Manta Ray. We were a party of eight, two drinks and three bottles of excellent Judean Hills (Tzorah) wine. The appetizers were generous and nice variety and quite creative. The main course was predominantly fish all cooked to perfection. Our total bill 2060 NIS. We added on top a 12% gratuity.
The Service was totally unacceptable.. We were served by 5 different waiters none of which took ownership of our table and consequently our needs. It was not an issue with the fact that the kitchen most likely was overwhelmed, and the food was delayed, but the waiters simply could not care about our table. There was no followup or an inquiry about our satisfaction with the main course etc, simply abandoned. After making a comment to the manager we were told that unfortunately we sat down at the table just at the shift change, which was also a totally unacceptable excuse. This is only a reflection of poor staff management if nothing else. I hope that the owners will realize that customers talk with their feet, and despite the delicious food will chose other venues where they feel welcomed and well served. We were offered free desert as a gesture of good will by the management, which I did not want to accept, but finally did. Personally, I have another reservation for November 9th which most likely...
Read moreI went to the restaurant around 9 pm, I was sitting down around 20 minutes and nobody asked me what I want to drink or eat. After that I called the waiter that was passing by and I asked for some food in the menu and the guy said that plate was no available, I asked them for the next one and one lady brought me a wrong plate, and then I told her what I wanted and she said that one was no available ether, but the waiter in charge of my table didn’t tell me. So she suggested something else and I accepted. The food was no really good but I was hungry. After that I asked for the bill and another waiter brought it and when he asked me about the tips I said not because was not good costumer service , he got mad and he said “ in that case we were working for free for you.. He makes me fill cheap but the tips for me is a reward for a good costumer service not because I have to give it. The lady that was not a waitress was the only one that treatment very well.in that restaurant I really appreciate that. I hope not comeback to the...
