My brother and I had the absolute pleasure of stumbling upon this gem earlier this week, and it was without a doubt one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Italy.
I feel like I need to say the following so as to protect all that is great about this restaurant: If you’re snobby about everything, please just don’t go to this restaurant, because you just wouldn’t fit the vibe and would ultimately take up a seat of some more appreciative customer. If, one the other hand, you’re a humble, patient, and friendly customer, please put this restaurant at the top of your list, because the chef and staff will return the same courtesy to you in kind - AND, you will eat some of the best pasta you’ve ever had!
All the dishes we had (two meals in two days - something we never do) were fantastic. But if you only have time for one dish, I can’t recommend the Gorgonzola and pears pasta dish highly enough. We will be talking about that experience for years to come!
Lastly, if the chef and staff are reading this, thank you so much for such great treatment and the quality food - you make the place what it is!...
Read moreI had some great food in Assisi but I went to nonna nini twice as it was superb and I enjoyed the personalised atmosphere there. For lunch I had the lentil salad and I asked the waitress to choose a wine for me. This salad was simply delicious! The lentils were crispy (I want to know how to cook them to be like this) and each carefully placed ingredient was delightfully fresh and perfectly blended with some delicate dressing. The next day I arrived for dinner and had the gnocchi with truffle sauce. What a taste sensation and the sauce coated the soft and fresh gnocchi perfectly. After this I had the same salad as the day before because I liked it that much. It was just as amazing as the day before, the thin slivers of radish tasted as if they’ve just come out of the garden- this speaks for continuity in this chef’s cooking. Again, I asked for the wine to be chosen and it accompanied the food perfectly. I would have liked to eat more at nonna nini but just could not fit in more of their delicious food. Again, service was impeccable with a very friendly touch. Thank you for...
Read moreI recently dined at Nonna Nini, located near Piazza del Comune in Assisi, and it was absolutely delicious—one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The restaurant offers a unique blend of Indian and Italian cuisine, resulting in complex flavors that are both subtle and strong.
One of the highlights for me was their accommodating menu, which includes gluten-free options and completely vegan dishes. Unlike many places where you have to ask for modifications, their vegan offerings are thoughtfully crafted without needing to request the removal of cheese or other non-vegan ingredients.
The chef is super friendly and clearly passionate about the food. The experience leans towards fine dining, but the atmosphere remains casual and relaxed. The service and ambiance were both great, making the entire experience enjoyable. My only minor disappointment was the lack of vegan dessert options.
Overall, Nonna Nini is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to explore a fusion of Indian and Italian flavors, whether you have dietary...
