Osteria da Santu Mangione — Restaurant in Assisi

I've been travelling all over Italy for twenty-five years, but I've never encountered such disrespectful, rude, jerk service. After visiting the monastery, I found the place at half past 12:00, where there were guests seated at two tables. I was delighted to discover on the menu the lentil soup, one of my favourites - especially in Umbria. The owner looked out onto the terrace three times in the half hour I waited, I waved and called him, but he looked at me and went back into the restaurant. When he finally came out, I asked him if I could have some soup, and he bluntly said "niente zuppa!" and left. So I could only say to his back that no problem, I would eat something else. I then went into the restaurant to order, but I couldn't even say a word because the unkempt owner shouted at me, broken English "I told you already, no lentils"! I tried to say again, that OK, I'll order something else, but he turned his back and went into the kitchen. I stood there stunned, and the customers who had just come in tended to turn back. Such an ill-mannered character should be in the fields, with the cows, not...

Really enjoyed the food from here. Prices were quite expensive on first view, but when you see the portion size and the food quality it was very worthwhile. The service was ok, a little abrupt at first but warmed up after. We enjoyed the tables outside and we managed to entertain both kids easily, with the lovely view it was a lovely experience. Great authentic italian food. Great pasta with sausage , wild boar stew and delicious roast pork with an apple sauce. Also a reasonable price in such a popular tourist destination. The pasta course was a very generous size, so we shared that and the antipasta. The side of cooked vegetables were a little disappointing as over cooked and mushy (but that’s the Italian way!)
