Osteria del Palio — Restaurant in Asti

If you are a fan of real italian food, dont go - clearly a tourist trap. Reason for large number of ratings is the tour groups - saw at least one when we were there. Food was terrible - both my partner and I had the truffle pasta. It was made with that fake truffle paste and the pasta was so over cooked that it was almost mushy. The entire time we were there we had multiple flies all around us and the staff didn’t seem to care. They serve this sparkling wine to start that was truly disgusting and we saw on the way out that they have hooked up a keg of wine to a carbonator and pull it like a draught beer. We enjoyed our Sunday lunch on our way back from the Piemonte. It was one of the few restaurants opened in Asti. It was packed with Italian families. And I understand why. The food is absolutely value for money. Typically Italian basic cuisine; pasta's, meat, salumi and cheeses. The service is fast but not very educated. A lot of shouting between the staff in the kitchen and those serving the food and taking the orders. If you're looking for a cheap and fine lunch, it's a good place, otherwise find a better place. Hospitality and food was top notch. So thankful we had the opportunity to come here and have one of our best dining experiences since touring Italy. The gorgonzola pizza appetizer was amazing.
