Osteria Franciscus — Restaurant in Bardolino

We came here on our first night in Bardolino. We searched around for a table big enough to seat us without a booking. Ordered drinks eventually after we were provided a lovely aperitif and crisps whilst we waited. Drinks took a while but then we eventually ordered after waiting around 20 minutes. Selection of pastas, lasagna, fish and steaks. The mixed fish was excellent. However they then missed one meal and a portion of chips with the steaks, despite the manager taking the order. My steak with mushrooms tasted like it was cooked in water, extremely bland fillet, I’m not sure how that is possible?! Then most of the dishes were bland pasta and a sloppy lasagna. I told my daughter this would be the best pasta dishes she would ever taste. Authentic and fresh. I’ve tasted better microwave meals. Disappointed. The staff were a mix and match of various waiters and no one seemed to know or be covering specific tables. Our missed meal eventually arrived with no apology or offer of a nice drink etc. Looked chaotic. Won’t be going back. But it is a very nice location and I’m sure ordering an easy pizza then you can’t go wrong. But there’s around 5000 serving the...

I've spent a lot of time in Bardolino in the last 6 years. This year 3 of us, over 2 weeks, have agreed we would return to every restaurant we have eaten at over this time but like to try other places. The two ladies I was with stated that their meal in this restaurant satiated them but had no flavour and they definitely wouldn't return. I had the simplest of meals, grilled chicken and chips. Probably have not had a worse meal in the last decade anywhere in the world. The apparently grilled chicken was dry and tasted solely of the charcoal which covered its base and the chips, which resembled over cooked oven fries, tasted of nothing but rancid oil. Not once did any staff ask how the food was. When I attempted to inform the staff, they claimed not to understand, even though all prior conversation was well understood. Possibly the worst restaurant...

Location in the sun was lovely, and the prices were ok. It was a very busy day in Bardolino and before sitting down, we were advised of a 20 minute delay for food - which was fine. However we had a bad experience on service, as we had to ask for menus, order drinks, order food and then they forgot to even cook our food - we had to ask where our food was after 60 minutes and it took at least another 20 to come out.

Out of our 5 dishes, 2 were inedible. We complained about the carbonara, a plate of cold spaghetti and the lardons which were largely uncooked fat. However this complaint was met with this is how the Italians make it (which it isn't).
