Don't go there. There are tens of nice places there that are way better,so it's not worth it to waste your time at Carletto Cucina. The waiter (I thing it was Carlo) was very rude and treated us and everyone else as animals. He doesn't have a menu - on a black board its written "tourist menu - appetisers +pasta - 40 euro per couple" and that's it with the information - he says take it or leave it. The appetisers are mostly good, but he serves different things and different amounts to every table which is not fair and makes you feel scammed. Everything is served in plastic plates, he gives you only 1 small water per couple. He throws the plates at the table without even looking at you, like you're some kind of animal that he feeds and he gets super annoyed and sighs if you ask about ANYTHING, even ice. The "ragu" pasta is same as tomato pasta but with LITERALLY 2 small peaces of meat. I admit the food is generally good, but that's not enough, because in Italy almost everywhere the food is good, so it doest matter when you get treated like an animal. He gave the couple next to us limoncello and then charged them extra for it. The general feeling is that this is a place, designed to make money from tourists - you are not a person there, just some kind of animal that has to eat whatever you get served as quickly as possible, give your money and get the he'll out of there so the next...

Come here for a one of a kind culinary experience in Bari!

The owner and chef, Carletto, is a unique character and runs his restaurant with much fun and joy. The restaurant comprises of 4 little square tables right outside his house door in the small side alley in the old town of Bari.

At first, the restaurant seemed closed. When we asked a cute elderly woman sitting nearby on a stool whether it was open, she gave a quick shout of “Carletto”. A friendly looking man sitting on one of the four plain tables in the street quickly jumped up to warmly greet us and explain the meal he could offer us.

Carletto offers a fixed menu comprising of a mix of starters, a main and a dessert, including wine and water for 20€. We were served a large variety of starters ranging from burrata to vegetable condiments to homemade zucchini parmigiana. The main was a hearty dish freshly made orecchiette in a tomato based sugo with pancetta, salsiccia and lots of cheese. The dessert was the only real disappointment, as we were given store bought cookies. But one does not really come here for the food but rather for the lovely experience.

The wine was a rather sweet primitivo which Carletto proudly told us that he makes himself.

We had a lovely evening enjoying a abundant home cooked meal in this little alley in Bari and being entertained by Carletto. Wholeheartedly recommend giving...

We visited Carletto Cucina in Bari, lured by its high ratings, but the experience was absolutely dreadful. They only offered a set menu for tourists, and everything was served with plastic cutlery. When we requested two glasses of Prosecco (wine was included in the tourist menu, but apparently, they didn’t want to open a bottle for just two glasses), they poured almost an entire bottle into two cups that were clearly meant for beer and charged us for the whole bottle.

The food was even worse. The appetizers tasted like nothing, literally nothing—even the olives had no flavor. The vegetables in the salad were so soft that they seemed really old or something, One of the glasses we were given was very dirty, adding to the pleasant experience And the owner/ manager was sitting on the next table with 2 women who were clearly talking about us with bad looks and taking advantage of the fact that we didnt understand italian, but it was understandable that it was not a pleasant conversation.

There was no sense of hygiene; the people who served and prepared the food wore no specific clothing and didn’t look like waiters at all. The entire experience was so bad that we were genuinely concerned about getting food poisoning.

I’m writing this review to prevent anyone else from being deceived by the high ratings, just like we were. Avoid this place...

One of the best dining experiences in Bari. It feels like you eat at home, no menu because everything changes every day. They got 2 menu options tho: antipasti+pasta+drinks or only pasta+drinks. I opted for the first one and it was amazing. The antipasti was so good, I was almost full but I kept space for the pasta. The food is tasty, traditional and authentic, also the atmosphere is exactly how it should be at a little Italian family restaurant. The limoncello was also great, usually I don’t like it (tasted in so many places around Italy) but here the lemon flavor is so intense, it was very good. The service is impeccable, I was welcomed immediately without any reservation (at the dining time) and they made me feel like home. The full menu is 35e/2pers if I am remembering right and it would be 20e/pers if you are dining solo which is amazing for the amount and quality of food. Loved it, already recommended it to my friends but also wanted to share this with you.
