Donkey — Restaurant in Bologna

Damn. Discovering a solid cocktail bar in a new city with great bartenders at the top of their game, creative cocktails and a well curated back-bar can be a truly fantastic experience.

We ventured down a very quiet alley in Bologna, in search of a certain speakeasy bar: Donkey.

After hesitating, we opened the door and emerged into a tasteful, pseudo tropical decor with great wicker lighting and ample, welcoming green velvet.

Head bartender and acting bar manager Ronny and his colleague Danielle took great care of us. From creative original cocktails in an 80’s themed menu to samples of local spirits, it was an memorable evening.

We enjoyed the Zelda (the Legend of Curry), Metal Slug, NBA Jam, and one of Ronny’s unnamed creations, as well as a host of cool spirits I’ve never seen in North America.

The cocktails included multiple fat washed spirits, acid adjusted juices and syrups, creative foams and overall really well balanced drinks that hit the spot!

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and one we won’t forget. Ronny and Danielle, grazie...

One of my friends wanted to visit this place late night. Nice walk through and around city center, past shops and restaurants and finally through a dark alley way. Sketchy at first if you're not using it. No lines that at the door! Door person asked us how many in our group, "three", we said. Door person doesn't acknowledge our answer, gets on the phone and has a brief convo via cell phone in Italian. Proceeds to stand like we never talked at all. About 3 minute wait.....15 minute wait American time which seemed like an eternity since we had no idea what was going on. A trap? We thought....then someone emerged from the front door, a nice young fellow, and welcomed us, full of energy and very welcoming. Lead us through a maze of rooms and seats us in a nice lounge table next to the bar. Seems like a fun place if u were 20 year old. Not really for us. Drinks...

I do not recommend this place for any woman who want to feel safe at cocktail bar. We went to this place multiple times. The last time was a disaster in every way possible. The men who sits next to us, assulted us many times. We told the place owner, they waited too long to take action. At the end the men turned their phone to us to make us see their “” pictures . Cursed loudly. They filmed us. Everyman inside the room reported this to managers. At the end they changed our room? Not even kicked them out! No apologies...
