After wandering around Bologna for about an hour without proper reservations we stumbled upon Hostaria San Vincenzi and managed to snag a table just as they were preparing to open. (Yes, we were dining on our very uncivilized American schedule). Giorgio was kind enough to recommend a bottle of Prosecco and he delivered a plate piled high with various meats and some of the best mix of fresh focaccia and other breads that I’ve had in Italy. This was the magnificent intro to an amazing primi de pasta course. I ordered a ragu that was freshly prepared that day. It was flavorful and delicious. But when I got a taste of the tortelloni in cheese cream (not to be confused with alfredo sauce) I am not exaggerating when I say that the explosion of flavors and textures in my mouth brought tears to my eyes. The second course of beef in tuna sauce was a bit quirky, but it actually worked incredibly well. We also had grilled veggies that were prepared to perfection. A local restaurant packed with Italians. One of the cooks was the only person who could speak a bit of English and he was so kind to alternate between cooking and serving us. Grazie Mille!
The food was honest and delicious. For starters, we enjoyed a platter with a variety of vegetables, cold as well as hot. Followed by 2 pasta dishes; tortellini with gorgonzola and pistachio and rigatone with tomato and pork cheek sauce. Soo good! All flushed down with a crisp local white wine. Sometimes, life is good.
At check out, we needed to pay 35 euro per head. An amount I would pay any day any time for the food and service we enjoyed.

Front of the restaurant is discreet, but behind is a large terrace with tables to sit outside. Small menus in my opinion with limited options are a good sign of a great restaurant that sticks to what they know, and it did not disappoint.
