A delightful, vibrant osteria with delicious food and friendly staff.
We were drawn to the place by the shredded, smoked horse with arugula and parmesan appetizer. Unique and delicious!
They are also well known for their take on the classic tortellini in broth, which definitely lived up to its billing. But hands down the better primi was the tortellono with butter and sage - generous serving of perfectly al dente tortelloni bursting with ricotta. Just outstanding.
We ended by sharing a delicious bowl of Caponata (eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, olives, pepperoni), which for us was reminiscent of a delicious pepperonata made by one of our favourite restaurants in Canada.
It’s also worth mentioning that they brought a basket of fresh, warm breads - a lovely touch.
We should note that the dishes are a touch on the salty side, which we’ve learned means they are intended to be enjoyed with a glass of wine, which balances the salt very nicely. We had already drank too much wine during the day so had sparkling water with dinner - our oversight! Lol
With a total bill of €47 the meal was great value for money. Highly...
Read moreThis place is an underrated marvel. We happened to be staying in an Air BnB right above it and thank goodness we happened upon this 'neighbourhood' favourite. We've been to Italy and Europe several times and I am a professional chef. You will not go wrong here against any of the highest rated restaurants in Bologna just by virtue of only Italians dining here. The soups and sauces are all from scratch and the roasted meats and pastas are off the charts. Even the salads are wonderful and warm specialty bread Tigalle from the oven. Nice assortment of wines by the glass as well. No fancy presentations and no tuxedoed servers. Have returned already and plan on dining here again as soon...
Read moreHave been dining mostly at establishments south of Via Farini. Solferino continued the pace of fresh quality food, pleasant helpful staff with enthusiasm for sharing their local dishes. lasagne and tagliere were awesome. Went a little non regional with gnocchi with guanciale, asparagus in parmesean cream sauce. Very good after several nights of gramigna, tortoloni, tortellini, and tagletelle with ragu'. Had a couple of bad experiences in the centro and seem to pay about 25% more for similar quality usually served with an attitude. My dining tip for Bologna is stay south of Via Farina. Plenty of choices, delicious quality meals served by people that are happy...
