It's located outside of the city centre in a residential area next to a petrol station. The room is cavernous, and decoration is neutral. There seems to be only one waiter dealing with the entire restaurant that looks like a 40-50 seater.
The menu is only in Italian but you can go to the website and run a translate on the menu.
Service is professional and efficient but not warm or friendly, but this might be because he is constantly busy being the only front of house. To the managers maybe hire one more waiter so he's not so busy!
On to the food and yes it is excellent! Everything we ate was perfectly cooked and flavoured. We loved the pasta! We wanted the pork tomahawk but they were sold out. We had burrata and cold cuts, raddichio, two pastas, ossobuco, ribs, two glasses wine, soft drinks and water.
The most amazing thing was this meal came to just €115 for 4 people walking completely full and satisfied.
This is the quality of food you wished would be served at every Italian restaurant!
So this place is 100% for food lovers that also want excellent...
Read moreNothing could have detracted from the exceptional food... Mamima Ristorante was one of the hidden gems in Bologna known by locals but seldom frequented by tourists. Thanks to Trip Advisor, which we always look to for suggestions, we were honored to deserve the only English-speaking (young) waiter. A bottle of Riesling Oberhofer, a Tuscan hand-rolled pasta with tomato and garlic sauce, mixed salads, sides of potatoes, grilled vegetables and rounding off with gelato made for a perfect meal.
Oh...did we mention our Second? Nothing could have detracted from the exceptional food...not the burglar alarm malfuncioning, the modest but bright, clean setting, completely packed restaurant, the not-so-healthy Suckling Pig Saddle, or our waiter trying to talk us out of ordering the last two servings of the pig in order to have it to offer to another customer. The entire dining experience was marvelous! Although we had arrived by taxi and without reservations, we suggest you plan ahead because we were very lucky to have...
Read moreWe loved our experience at Mamima! The host and perhaps owner was warm and welcoming. The menu is only in Italian, like many other places in Bologna. (If you rely on internet or cell service, you may want to do this ahead of time because we overheard one table struggle with access and read in other reviews that they did not have service.)
We ordered the eggplant antipasti, the carbonara, and pici all'amantriciana, as well as a bottle of lambrusco wine and tiramisu for dessert. Service was absolutely excellent and cheerful without being obtrusive. The eggplant was hearty and meaty. The pastas were absolutely excellent and some of the best we had on our trip. We wished we had space to try more of their dishes. (Portion sizes reminded us more of America!) We saw someone else's steak and it looked way better than the Florentine steak we got at a famous Firenze restaurant. The tiramisu tasted delicious and very homemade. Our meal was approximately 60 euros. We very much enjoyed our meal and will...
