I usually don't write reviews for restaurants, but I'm making an exception because the experience I had at La Colombina was honestly laughable.
My parents and I dined at La Colombina at the recommendation of our hotel receptionist. We were met with mediocre food (quality and presentation) and appalling service from our waiter. He was rude and unprofessional--unacceptable for a Michelin guide restaurant. He seemed like he was in a hurry, and when we couldn't order because we hadn't been given an adequate amount of time to decide, he just walked away as if he were annoyed at our incompetence. Later on, we told one of his colleagues that his attitude and service was just terrible, and he failed to even apologize or say goodbye when we left (he was at the table next to us when we left).
Besides the fact that our waiter was glaring at us while we decided what to eat, my parents and I also had difficulty choosing because all the options seemed unimpressive and bland. The food was below standard; my tortellini was hard and cold, and my mothers roast beef looked like a cold cut platter. We sat outside (at the very edge because our waiter would not let us change tables, despite the fact that the restaurant was half empty), and the atmosphere was also terrible. The alleyway in which we sat was dark and uninspiring, and frankly I could imagine the garbage collector making a visit the next morning.
This was definitely the worst restaurant my family and I went to during our stay in Italy (we stayed for two weeks), and we certainly wish that we had walked out like the...
Read moreAs a tourist couple we went to the restaurant to ask for a reservation for the next day. They said they cannot help and wanted us to do it online instead. We left the place with an awkward feeling, then went online to make a reservation. The system said they put us into a waiting list by mentioning they would approve later. However, it was not clear when they would approve. Is this five minutes before reservation time or right at time or 10 minutes later? Probably they expect everyone to wait for their response and not do anything else or not go anywhere far. Just to make sure we went to the place at time and a second person at the forefront was very rude. We said we haven’t received any response negative or positive and asked why. The guy said they put 80 people into a waiting list and we were not alone. This is his justification. What is wrong with you? Why would you do that? Why do you make 80 people wait for you without telling them yes or no? Overall, I don’t think this is fair to any of the guests. In addition, their rude and arrogant attitude makes it even worse. I don’t know how they get recommendation from global sources by considering the customers’ experience starts at the forefront and at least two of the forefront workers or managers do not have capacity or interest to welcome any guests. The more you increase demand to these places, the more arrogant they will become. Not...
Read moreThis was my foodie friend’s favorite meal in our entire week of Italy (Florence, Siena, Bologna).
She loooooved the baked onion dish and the sauce that came with it was incredible.
Items we got: Apps: Baked onion: highly recommend Potato soufflé: very unique texture. I enjoyed Beef tartare: table very much enjoyed this Primi (pastas): white ragu lasagna: first lasagna for us in Italy so very different from the states but very unique and good. I’d recommend as long as you like cheese! White ragu is also different from typical red sauce. More compressed and yet less dense than American style. This might’ve been my personal favorite tagliatelle ragu: we get this everywhere in Bologna. This might’ve been the group’s favorite of the restaurants we’ve been to in Bologna tortellini in Parmesan: looks very creamy but is actually more cheesy and very high quality cheese. I’d highly recommend if you like cheesy or typical “creamy” dishes sorpiscine tortellini (vegetarian): very unique flavors and uses parsley oil. The group LOVED this
Secondi: beef cheek and potato: loved this. Classic dish and beef was so tender eggplant aubergine: very high quality and not like your typical American style eggplant Parmesan. It’s not drowning in sauce bolognese...
