A confusing experience; we walked in, sat down, and wondered, what do we do next. Eventually, an employee told us the menu is on Instagram - which is bad; not everyone has Instagram - and when we looked on their Instagram, we saw many random pictures and videos. When we finally found some dishes that seemed nice, we were told they were not making them at that time/day, and in fact only two dishes visible in the Instagram story were available. To be honest, these dishes looked very unappealing. However, it turned out that one of these dishes was actually the same as one of the dishes we wanted - so huge tip: Take proper pictures of your dishes, organise your account and remove all the random nonsense, or better, make an actual menu. Minus one star for this.
However, we got a free sampling of juices, which were unique and in general nice to taste. We selected one juice which we liked the most, and got a relatively large amount (0.5L?) to drink - very nice. Plus one star for this.
The food... Was by Sicilian standards very good, I think. The portion sizes are very large. The dishes we ordered were not the most flavourful - but we think that Sicilian food is perhaps not so flavourful in general, compared to what we are used to, as we see this in many restaurants. Maybe the other dishes are more flavourful and/or maybe we are the problem. The price was also incredible, in that most Sicilian restaurants would easily charge 2.5 times the amount of what we paid (but, the price is not in the menu; you have no idea what you are going to pay, but thankfully we were positively surprised).
The restaurant is frequented by many locals who walk in and out as if they know each other for a long time (which is a positive; it shows that many people enjoy the food and company, and frequently...
Read moreThis place is love! It is our last day in Catania, and we where close to that point that we are leaving the city/island with a disappointment of culture here. But thank God we found randomly the mood to search for "African food" & found Le Dakar - a small hidden restaurant in the corners of Catania. At the moment we entered that place we felt something important: unconditional hospitality, spirit and love! The lady from the service, and also the guys where super friendly, carrying and we could feel that they want us to show they kind of "traditional family" vibe! 🙌✨🦋 The food is made with heart! The drinks are from another world, the dessert is a new definition of sweets. We started to understand the culture by each bite! ❤️ And the price for this amount of mindset we have now fills our heart now - the same as our tummy's! Thank you so much for that...
Read moreA unique dining experience that puts the overpriced tourist-traps found in the city centre to shame. The food was brilliant and was served in sizeable portions that offered incredible value for money. We dined with a party of seven and asked the waitstaff to serve us whatever they’d recommend for a group of our size and we certainly weren’t disappointed, leaving with both full stomachs and a new appreciation for a cuisine which is not always the obvious first choice when travelling through Europe as a tourist. The family-run vibe of the place was also so lovely; everyone involved with the business had a smile on their face and I certainly left feeling as though I’d dined at an old friend’s place rather than a somewhat bland experience that can be the norm at other restaurants that take themselves too seriously. Big love and thanks for a...
