We ordered the enchiladas verdes and alambre de pollo. The enchiladas looked slightly different than what we are used to in Mexico, but, the salsa verde was delicious and exactly like the real thing, huge compliments for this - we later talked with the owner, and he confirmed he imports it directly from Mexico. Unfortunately, on my first bite I ended up eating the entire habanero/chili and this was properly spicy - so my mouth ended up being on fire, my eyes in tears, and my tastebuds unable to properly enjoy the meal at all. The owner came to our table to check up on me (and offered me to use the fire extinguisher :P), which was very nice, and we had a nice conversation.
I think the enchiladas (and certainly the salsa verde) were nice, but I can't truly judge considering I was on fire. My girlfriend found the alambre to be nice with a good portion of chicken. The dessert was genuinely nice, we enjoyed it. Overall, the food was nice, if a little bit expensive, but it's a good place to visit if you're missing Mexican food.
The owner is very nice, and was talking with every guest in a very nice manner. He lived five years in Mexico, and could speak Spanish with us. The waitress did not speak Spanish (which is fine), but the menu mentions only 'enchiladas' and she did not ask if I wanted them green or red. However, when I asked her if they were enchiladas verdes or rojos, she did know what I meant, so that is good. She also asked if we liked spicy food - and yes, we do, but well, read above. I was expecting the salsa to be made spicy, not to eat an entire habanero by accident. :P
The restaurant does not offer any Mexican drinks aside from mezcal and tequila. The waitress did not know what horchata, jamaica, or aqua de sabores were, and the owner explained that the Italian clients do not appreciate these drinks so much that it is commercially viable to sell them. This makes it a bit hard to review this restaurant, because on the one hand; from a purely Mexican point of view, you would be slightly disappointed, but on the other, if this would have been a fully authentic Mexican restaurant (e.g. the tacos are presented luxuriously, spread out on a plate with a fancy sauce over them, or the enchiladas were recommended to be eaten with pork while authentically they should be eaten with chicken, there were no Mexican drinks aside from mezcal/tequila, et cetera), it wouldn't exist today because it wouldn't be commercially viable. Considering this, we think it was authentic enough.
The owner offered us a free mezcal/tequila shot after our talk, which was a really nice gesture and...
Read moreBeing from Southern California, everyone was puzzled as to why I would travel all the way to Sicily only to end up eating Mexican food. Why not?
I was with a friend and we were meeting his friends for brunch. We opted for the Brunch Menu which features bottomless mimosas and a brunch dish.
First off, the mimosas were outstanding and as always in Europe they use REAL orange juice, not the sugared up stuff we are used to in the US.
The food was tasty, I tried both the Chiliquiles with steak and Huevos Rancheros. If you're expecting 100% authentic - well you're not going to get it. However the dishes have delicious Sicilian influence. The ingredients are fresh and the presentation is superb. It's going to be a bit lighter than the heavy Mexican dishes that you may be used to, which I liked.
BTW - years ago I dined at a Mexican restaurant in the UK and this was LIGHT YEARS better.
The other people that we were with raved about how they ordered dinner all the time and also spoke very highly of the dinner menu and the sangria.
The staff was super friendly and very attentive. It was a...
A dimenticavo...servizio lento
P.s 2. abbiamo pagato circa 24€ a testa.
Saluti e...
