Trattoria Saltimbocca Da Giancarlo — Restaurant in Catania

Stopped in Catania on a cruise and googled local restaurants. This one had the best rating-to-review ratio so we gave it a shot. It was about a 30 minute walk from the port but the weather was nice so it's an easy walk if you're used to that. The staff was super friendly and attentive and speak just enough English if you're like us and know 0 Italian! I ordered the spaghetti with clams (best I've ever had) and my fiancé ordered the black spaghetti. I tried his and even though I think it was good, he wasn't the biggest fan. Their rolls were sooooo good and fresh, crunchy outside, soft inside. We also ordered a bottle of wine (don't know which kind, we had them surprise us) and an espresso that my fiancé said was "crack" which is a good thing for an espresso!! For 2 meals, a small bottle of wine, and an espresso, the total was $48. We definitely recommend this restaurant and would stop by if we're ever back here...

Terrible food, absolutely tasteless. What the English would call Bland!

I have never given 1 star before but this place is so bad, when it comes to quality in taste (seasoning), I can't understand why people like it.

Sure the fish is fresh & the quality of meat in general is ok & granted the portions are big.

But it's all completely tasteless, to put it in short - the cook can't cook! At least not when it comes to seasoning (making the food taste of something).

I'm not Italian, I'm not even a cook but I can make better Italian food. You can probably make better food. & the question then becomes, why waste your money here (and it is a waste).

The Wine we had was great, we had Chardonnay. The food was okay I ordered marinated shrimps as my starter, which didn't taste of much, it was basically just Oil and Lemon didn't taste of any other ingredients. I had shellfish Risotto as my main it didn't taste of much, the shellfish were Nice so yeah it was okay. The service was Strange they were 3-4 guys taking our order and was always 2-3 guys at your table, asking you something every 5 minute + we ordered Pepper black shells which never came because i don't Think one of Them had any control of our order because as I Said they were always 3-4 guys taking your order.
